Formulation Chemist

META is seeking a Formulation Chemist for our facility in Billerica, MA. You will play a key role in developing safer separators for next-generation batteries in partnership with a leading battery manufacturer. 

What You’ll Do:

Are you always pushing the limits, always trying something new, always tweaking your creations to make them even better?  We are looking for an innovative and meticulous formulation chemist with proven experience and a “can do” attitude to design next-generation battery separators.  Must be able to communicate well and to excel in a collaborative, team-centered organization.  Experience in lab-scale coatings manufacturing is key. 

Some of the typical responsibilities will include:

• Formulating, mixing, and coating new slurries for next-generation battery separators and ultrafiltration membranes
• Creating hand draw-downs and executing pilot-scale runs on a roll-to-roll coater
• Communicating with coworkers to scale up designs
• Researching scientific literature for cutting-edge materials and techniques
• Managing chemical inventory for your research

Minimum qualifications:

• M.S. or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
• 2+ years of hands-on experience as a formulator
• Experience with coatings manufacturing at both the lab and the pilot scale
• Experience with experiment design and statistical analysis

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of lithium batteries
• Expertise in polymer systems and colloidal dispersions
• Knowledge of porous membranes
