Role Overview
As a Data Engineer at Populus, you'll be joining a world-class team that is transforming the future of transportation in cities.
About the Job
- Build scalable, performant data pipelines
- Manage our geospatial data, queries, and aggregations
- Design robust data models to serve product features and reports
- Explore and productize data warehousing solutions
- Write performant APIs to support our web client and 3rd parties
You Are
- Able to uphold best practices in engineering, security, and design
- Able to decompose complex business problems and drive toward a solution with oversight
- Interested in how users interact with and understand data
- Ready to quickly learn our stack, best practices, and codebase
- Comfortable working collaboratively on a team and communicating in team settings
- Capable of delivering features from design to completion
You Have
- 3+ years of experience
- Experience writing HTTP APIs in a backend scripting language
- Experience crafting and tuning SQL queries using an ORM
Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience with Python and Python's scientific computing ecosystem
- A background working with data and basic statistics
- Experience with GIS or have worked with spatial data
- Experience in urban transportation

Populus’ salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position across all US locations; however, Populus has an office first philosophy and reserves the higher end of the range for employees that are based in the Bay Area and commuting to the office on a regular basis. Unless stated otherwise, Populus will prioritize hires who are able to work in the San Francisco office three days per week.
Within this range, individual pay is determined by location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education/training. Only in truly rare circumstances where a candidate has experience or expertise that far exceed the basic requirements for this position would Populus consider paying a base salary rate at the upper end of the range. Please note that the compensation ranges reflect the base salary only and do not include the value of bonuses, stock options, or benefits.
