Job Description

The Role

At Notpla, we are on a mission to make packaging disappear. We are an innovative, ideas- and action-oriented start up that was founded on the belief that nature knows best. We develop and manufacture naturally biodegradable packaging solutions, made from seaweed and plants. We are currently looking to bring in a Packaging Technologist to join our Development & Manufacturing Team, specialising in the development of our proprietary machinery and manufacturing technique.

The manufacturing group within Notpla is responsible for creating our innovative and unique range of products.  In particular, the team is tasked with the in-house production of our flagship Ooho product. They are led by our Director of Development & Manufacturing, who has years of experience leading the development of sustainable packaging alternatives. The team is incredibly dynamic, owning a flexible approach to problem-solving that allows them to flourish with this new and exciting product technology. They are a group that celebrate change and have a constant desire to push the process and capabilities of their products forward. As a Packaging Technologist you will sit within this team. Our engineering function is a versatile, hands-on group that continually strives to improve the engineering philosophy and process whilst reacting to faults and challenges as they arise.

Your profile

We are looking for a Packaging technologist with a proven background in flexible materials. Someone who understands the process of bringing a flexible packaging technology through from concept, to trial, industrialisation and through to product launch.

  • Manage packaging development projects, liaising with a number of internal and external stakeholders to manage and attend packaging trials and report outcomes efficiently.

  • Responsible for creating packaging specifications, and future implementation of packaging specification management tool.

  • Technical validation of new packaging equipment.

  • Communicate technical information to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Continuously seek new technology to support the company's growth.

  • Establish packaging standards via factory trials to ensure that proposed packaging materials are fit for purpose (i.e. appropriate material/ components, acceptable quality, adequate performance, and efficiency on packing line) and gain approval from all relevant parties.

  • Identify packaging related innovation whilst continuing to think about sustainability, cost savings, technology, material standardisation, waste, and productivity/process improvement opportunities.

  • Developing and executing packaging qualification plans, including plant trials; reporting against KPI’s to verify impact/mitigate risk of packaging changes.
