Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will operate both a strategic thinker and an effective leader responsible for identifying opportunities within the organization to operate more efficiently, preparing financial analyses of operations, and statements with supporting schedules, under the guidance of management.
Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>
Accounting Operations -</li>
<ul>
<li>Lead and develop Modern Meadow’s accounting capabilities, including billing, inventory, accounts payable, payroll, and cash application functions</li>
<li>Maintain and ensure the integrity of the company’s accounting systems (including chart of accounts) and compliance with GAAP</li>
<li>Manage month end financial close process (including proper review/maintenance of account reconciliations and accruals)</li>
<li>Review and approve monthly trial balance</li>
<li>Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting records and financial systems</li>
<li>Ensure timely preparation, distribution and review of monthly/quarterly financial statements for management</li>
<li>Stay current on, research and document new accounting rules that will impact the company; research and document the company’s position on complex accounting matters</li>
<li>Drive continuous improvements in the company’s accounting processes and financial/business controls (including those for the record to report, purchase to pay, order to cash, and plan to make cycles)</li>
</ul>
<li>Financial Management &amp; Controls -</li>
<ul>
<li>Active management of overhead and supporting the business in finding cost savings</li>
<li>Lead the documentation and maintenance of the company’s financial/accounting policies</li>
<li>Manage and support the annual audit process (including audit planning, preparation, support, close-out and ongoing improvements)</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings</li>
<li>Assist with the benchmarking and setting of various financial and/or operational metrics; help develop and maintain metrics and reports to assist with management financial oversight</li>
<li>Partner with the Financial Planning &amp; Analysis function to prepare and review monthly financial results and variances; and adopt strategies to influence operational behavior</li>
</ul>
<li>Treasury - </li>
<ul>
<li>Oversee end-to-end accounts payable and receivable processes</li>
<li>Review weekly, monthly, annual cash forecasts</li>
<li>Monitor bank account activity, and other treasury matters; ensure compliance</li>
</ul>
<li>Tax –</li>
<ul>
<li>Support the execution and implementation of the company’s tax strategy</li>
<li>Assist in providing tax advisory to mitigate tax risks and exposure</li>
<li>Team with external tax preparers to ensure all relevant tax deadlines and regulations are satisfied</li>
</ul>
</ul>
Experience, Skills &amp; Knowledge:
<ul>
<li>BS/BA in Accounting, Masters in Accounting and/or Finance a plus</li>
<li>Concrete understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations (CPA) credentials (or international equivalent), with 4 years of experience in public accounting, and 5-7 years of experience in private accounting. Management experience a plus</li>
<li>Experience with NetSuite, Power BI and mastery within Excel</li>
<li>Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand.</li>
<li>Knowledge of federal regulation on taxes and reporting.</li>
<li>Strong proficiency in technical accounting research and memo writing and financial reporting</li>
<li>Outstanding written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal and presentation skills</li>
<li>Strong organizational skills including task prioritization and effective time management</li>
<li>Excellent analytical skills demonstrating good judgment and problem-solving ability</li>
<li>Ability to work on-site at our Nutley, NJ HQ a minimum of three (3) days a week (currently Tuesday – Thursday)</li>
