Job Description

Are you looking for an opportunity to make a big impact with a nature-based climate solution that can also help achieve many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals? Biochar is one of the oldest carbon removal technologies that too few people know about. We need your help to change that!

The International Biochar Initiative (IBI) is a growing non-profit organization seeking climate change communications support to help IBI achieve our mission through strategic and highly impactful communications, marketing, and public relations.

A globally distributed, small team, we are a mission-drive, creative and dynamic group of people working in briskly growing area of climate change solutions. We value grit, hard work, creative thinking, a commitment to optimism, kindness, and a strong sense of humor.

The contractor / this position reports directly to the IBI Executive Director and coordinates with the Development Manager, owning and improving IBI’s communications, marketing, and PR activities.

This role is currently a .5 FTE contract position, with the possibility to grow into a full time, salaried role.

Job Type: Contract position 20-25 hours / week
Location: Remote. Flexible, with preference for candidates in North American or European time zones. Candidates must be authorized to work in the country in which they live. IBI is not be able to provide sponsorship for work permits or visas.

Remuneration: $25 - $40 / hour. Hourly rate will be determined by experience and local median wages.

  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years climate change communications experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in journalism, public relations, communication, marketing, or relevant field required OR three – five years relevant experience in place of degree.
  • Proficiency with social media tools such as Hootsuite, and LinkedIn platform required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet usage required.
  • Practical, real-world experience in climate change media and communications.
  • Basic web and graphic design experience, as well as familiarity with design software such as Canva.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, proofing, and editing skills with the ability to synthesize nuanced, detailed information into concise, engaging content for a variety of audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates focus and drive, with the ability to anticipate logistical needs, proactively resolve issues and conflicts, and plan for multiple outcomes.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and prioritize multiple tasks effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in English language.
  • Highly skilled at time management and managing expectations across multiple time zones.
  • Proficiency with Wordpress preferred.
  • Proficiency with media outreach and tracking on platforms preferred
