Job Description

Context: Neoteric is a start-up but we are not starting from scratch. Since November 2022 we have been managing two large-scale initiatives, with another three in development.  We expect to hire 5 full time employees by Q2 2023 and see steady growth thereafter.  We seek employees committed to addressing the climate crisis, who are highly entrepreneurial, with strong people skills, and an ability to learn new, technical subject matter and speak to it with authority. Our motto is “Getting more done, together” so we only seek employees who love working collaboratively and are focused on implementation over perfection. 

Note: Neoteric takes work/life balance very seriously. Outside of client meetings, we will be as flexible as possible on work hours to meet your particular home life needs. Staff will be expected to work an average of 8 hours/day.  If significant additional hours are worked during particularly busy periods on an exceptional basis, or significant travel is required on an exceptional basis, compensatory time off will be provided.  

 

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:  

This role will have a front seat view of launching a new company in the clean energy and climate space as well as the opportunity to dive into all aspects of managing innovative, impactful clean energy and climate initiatives.  The role will evolve with the individual’s skills and interests as the company grows. 

This role will provide day-to-day project management support for at least 2 initiatives. Please see the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance and the Advanced and Indirect Mitigation Platform for more information on our first two initiatives.  Other near-term initiatives will focus on agricultural  methane, decarbonization of off-grid power generation, decarbonization of heavy-duty trucking, and decarbonization of mining. Candidates will be considered based on the general skillset listed below as well as their substantive knowledge of and experience in any of the key sectors of our work.  

Responsibilities will vary widely and entail:  

  • Conducting research and quickly synthesizing findings for a beginner audience/ becoming the go-to expert in key substantive areas for our initiatives 
  • Preparing briefing materials, particularly Powerpoint slides 
  • Stakeholder/client management 
  • Supporting various communications efforts, including organization of webinars and development of website content 

Skills and Qualifications:  

Required:  

  • Strong commitment to and enthusiasm for addressing the climate crisis 
  • At least 2 years of work experience, with a focus on climate change, energy, sustainability, or supply chain/procurement  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills  
  • Be able to work equally well in teams on collaborative projects AND as a self-starting, individual contributer 

One or more of the following:  

  • Experience working with or advising on alternative fuels projects, e.g. green hydrogen, green ammonia, or biofuels 
  • Experience working on agricultural methane projects or programs 
  • Experience working with or in environmental markets or environmental attribute certificates, e.g. carbon offsets or renewable energy certificates (RECs) 
  • Experience supporting or managing corporate procurement processes or supply chain systems 

Preferred:  

  • Proficiency in excel-based modeling (other modeling experience very welcome)
  • Proficiency in visual analytics platforms like Tableau
  • Knowledge of the GHG Protocol and/or Science Based Targets Initiative, i.e. significant knowledge of GHG accounting, reporting and claiming, ideally: 
    • Experience developing corporate GHG inventories and reporting against climate targets and/or 
    • Experience with scope 3 emissions accounting, reporting or claiming as well as supplier engagement/procurement approaches to address corporate scope 3 emissions   

Salary and Benefits:  

  • Starting salary: 80-95k/year depending on qualifications
