Rhizome is seeking a back-end engineer who can scale Rhizome’s first-in-class climate risk platform. The ideal candidates will have a strong background developing in AWS and extensive experience in modern software development –– particularly in startup environments. Rhizome is a climate resilience SaaS platform that helps utilities, governments, and corporations plan for greater resilience to climate change and extreme weather. Our proprietary climate risk platform applies AI to a vast amount of information that characterizes impact from extreme weather to automate the quantification of current and future climate risks on a geospatial interface of customer assets. As the U.S. experiences record-breaking climate-related impacts, our tool identifies vulnerabilities and empowers our customers to model thousands of scenarios to maximize the protection of communities and businesses.
Roles and Responsibilities
Design and develop scalable, high performance backend systems that powers Rhizome’s web application for utility customers..
Collaborate with the Front End and Platform teams to build new, iterative backend features..
Architect and build multi-tenant, linearly scalable services to support Rhizome’s data analytics and planning application.
Ensure code quality and maintainability through continuous integration.
Build backend infrastructure using templated framework over AWS using AWS’s Well-Architected Framework for security, reliability and performance.
Qualifications
3+ years building and orchestrating services for GraphQL and REST based applications
3+ years working with Node, Next.js and ExpressJS
3+ years deploying and orchestrating services in AWS
Excellent programming skills in TypeScript and Python
Hands-on experience with Docker and GitLab
Experience with AWS services like RDS, S3, EC2, Athena, Serverless, ALB, Subnets and ECS
Experience with static and dynamic code analysis
Successful track record of building and deploying multi-tenant solutions
Experience working with large geospatial datasets is a huge plus
