We are looking for a Senior Energy Analyst with expertise in electric power resource planning and valuation for utility power procurement to join our team in Boulder, CO. You will be an integral part of delivering on Ascend Analytics’ mission to bring advanced energy analytics to support real-world decisions in resource planning, renewable generation, energy storage, and energy risk management to electric utilities, community choice aggregators, Fortune 500 corporations, and other energy industry clients. The ideal candidate has a strong background in the energy industry, economics, finance or engineering and exhibits high levels of leadership and professionalism.

Job Responsibilities 

• Learn how Ascend’s resource planning tool PowerSimm is used to advance the analytical foundation of resource planning and valuation activities 

• Manage project teams and lead client engagements 

• Work with a nation-wide utility client base to develop integrated resource plans, run and valuate requests for offer/proposals, analyze the economics of legacy power plants, and plan for their replacement with cleaner energy sources, etc. 

• Work collaboratively with a top-level team with similar passion for the energy field 

• Advance data visualization techniques to represent results that provide support for decision analysis 

• Support power market analysis, including long-term fundamental market forecasting efforts 

• Assimilate complex information into readily understood reports and presentations 

Required Qualifications 

• 2+ years of energy industry experience, including knowledge of wholesale energy markets, power supply and demand side resource technologies, and resource planning in vertically integrated and deregulated power markets 

• Master’s or PhD: advanced degree(s) in economics, engineering, or business (MBA), with energy focus preferred  

• Experience successfully prioritizing, managing and delivering projects in a consulting capacity 

• Understanding of energy modeling system and methods 

• Knowledge of software and programming  

• Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills and work ethic 

• Excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Demonstrated track record of working with clients and team 

• Knowledge of structured programming 

Compensation: $95,000 - $140,000           

Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
