The Landbanking Group’s (TLG) mission is to completely transform the way we use land in these unprecedented times of accelerating climate change, mass extinction and social divide.

A novel, globally active company was founded to turn landowners and land stewards into producers and sellers of ecosystem services and products.

TLG integrates diverse geospatial data sources and makes use of the latest machine learning models for earth observation (EO) data, carbon footprint and biodiversity analysis. Combined with scalable ground-based assessments, e.g. metagenomics, bioacoustics, we develop digital twins of land plots, assess ecosystem quality, verify proof of impact and tokenize the claims so that they can be traded or bundled into tradable assets.

TLG is looking for a GIS and EO engineer (gn) with a methodological focus on EO data management and GIS solutions to join our ambitious team and help to develop and feed a growing number of models that quantify ecosystem health and ecosystem services worldwide.

Your tasks

  • Design and develop scalable, efficient, and reliable geospatial applications using Python, Docker and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP); working closely with our backend engineering team.
  • Manage retrieval, hosting, pre-processing and access of various EO and other geospatial datasets within our cloud deployment.
  • Integrate external partners’ data via APIs into our infrastructure.
  • Assist members of the science team and the backend engineering team in geospatial data handling and problem solving.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards

  • >3y working experience in geospatial engineering, geoinformatics, remote sensing, or similar disciplines
  • Fluency in using Python for geospatial applications (e.g. geopandas, xarray) and standard geospatial toolchains (e.g. gdal, ogr, PostGIS, otb)
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing, containerization, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience in scalable data processing, e.g. dask
  • Experience in managing and serving STAC catalogues
  • Knowledge of different API systems (e.g. REST)
  • Knowledge of geospatial data management principles, including database design, metadata handling and data formats.
  • Knowledge of standard EO missions, data types, characteristics and typical pre-processing steps
  • Strong proficiency in Docker, Linux, and cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS)
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies

What's in it for you?

  • Impact
  • A working environment based on trust, encouragement and feedback
  • A positive, inspiring and truly interdisciplinary work atmosphere
  • High degree of autonomy
  • Competitive salary
  • Challenging and novel problems to solve
  • Work remotely (timezone should be close to Germany)
  • Learning and development opportunities within and outside our organization
  • Various employee perks including personal development budget

We are looking forward to receiving your application. Please include a cover letter, a CV and, if available, a link to public reference code (e.g. via a github repository).
