To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method. 
 
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of Rondo’s proprietary heat battery technology. In this role, you will help design systems, components, and tooling to support the large-scale deployment of RHB (Rondo Heat Battery) for industrial processes.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to): 

• Convert product requirements into technical specifications, develop conceptual and detailed designs along with necessary risk assessments; perform engineering analysis, prototyping and/or testing required to achieve robust and cost-effective solutions on the core technology as well as tooling and other equipment to support manufacturing, testing and other efforts 
• Deliver projects concurrently within timelines and budgets 
• Design for high volume manufacturability and lower cost 
• Develop specifications, working drawings, instructions and other related documents 
• Equipment selection for functionality, cost and scalability 
• Work closely with other functional teams for real-time product design, development and project implementation 
• Propose and execute product cost models and cost reduction initiatives 
• Support purchasing efforts to source components and services by obtaining or developing necessary technical specifications 
• Participate in vendor qualification as necessary 

What You Bring: 

• 2+ years of engineering experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer 
• A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related areas 
• Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting novel systems 
• Experience with materials such as refractories, ceramics and insulation operating at high temperatures/ thermal cycling/ under high thermal stresses is a plus 
• Hands-on experience with multiple successful product designs, design for cost and cost reduction activities 
• Fluency in Solidworks 
• Ability to solve mechanical engineering problems and develops conceptual designs across disciplinary boundaries 
• Ability to work in a team environment

This role necessitates being on-site at our Alameda HQ. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $120,000 to $135,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
