About the Job
We are seeking a skilled Reporter to write for a new publication covering the new frontiers of climate technology.
About the role
As the first Reporter on our team, you will play a vital role in delivering accurate and compelling climatetech stories to our readers: from news stories to analysis pieces, and from explainers to features. We cover the climate, tech, and energy industries with stories that are rigorous, practical, and provocative.
Launching in fall 2023, the site is geared toward well-informed practitioners in the climate and tech industries. We cover the intersection of climate/energy and artificial intelligence, the transformation of the grid, and emerging climate technologies (like hydrogen and carbon removal).
The news site represents the latest project from Post Script Media, which has been making some of the climate world’s most indispensable podcasts — The Carbon Copy and Catalyst, to name a few — for the last two years.
Responsibilities:
- Research, report, and write engaging news, analysis, explainer, and feature stories that offer industry readers context and nuance that will influence their work and the industry more broadly.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments and trends in the climate and tech industries.
- Collaborate with the broader editorial team to brainstorm ideas, pitch stories, and develop compelling angles for coverage.
- Ensure all content is well-researched, factually accurate, and adheres to the highest standards of journalistic integrity.
- Meet deadlines consistently and manage multiple assignments concurrently.
- Attend and report on in-person events such as conferences, with occasional travel.
About you
We are a small team, so it’s important that anyone joining us is self-motivated, flexible, and excited to be a part of a new media venture. Beyond that, we are looking for writing chops and an understanding — or at least keen interest in — the beat. Some specifics are below:
Required qualifications
- At least two years of professional reporting experience, preferably with a focus on climate, technology, and business
- Familiarity with the the climate and technology industries, and especially with the topics outlined above
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and engaging articles
- Strong research and interviewing skills and the ability to gather information from reliable sources
- An understanding of journalistic ethics
Preferred qualifications
- Experience reporting for an industry audience
- Familiarity with data analysis and visualization
- Comfort with occasional audio reporting or public speaking
We know there are great reporters who may not check every box we’ve outlined above. If that's the case for you, please don't hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself. Post Script Media is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and welcomes applicants of all backgrounds.
Practical details
Location
Latitude Media currently operates as a remote team. We welcome applicants based anywhere in the Eastern time-zone, with a preference for those in the New York or Boston areas. We have an office in Boston, and eventually plan to have one in New York as well, though have no plans to make in-person work mandatory.
Compensation
This position will pay between $65,000 and $85,000, commensurate with experience and location, and is also eligible for equity. We also offer a competitive benefits package (including dental and vision care) and unlimited paid time off.
To apply
If you are interested in working with us, please email lisa@postscriptmedia.com with the following:
- Your resume
- A cover letter that outlines why you would be a good fit
- Please specifically highlight any experience you have reporting for an industry audience, and your familiarity with the climate or technology industries.
- Two writing samples
- Links are preferred, but if your work is paywalled or otherwise inaccessible, a PDF also works great.
The deadline to apply is August 13, 2023, though we will review applications on a rolling basis.
