Position Summary

We are growing our team and seeking an entrepreneurial Senior Director of Finance to join our Finance team. This position reports to the Chief of Staff. In this newly-created position, the Director of Finance will be principally responsible for establishing, refining, and keeping our financial systems running smoothly. This includes managing our external financial partners as well as any internal staff. As we are in the process of transitioning from our fiscal sponsor, the Senior Director of Finance will also support the Chief of Staff and team in designing the organization’s new financial architecture. The Senior Director of Finance plays a pivotal role in ensuring the organization has a strong financial foundation to support our impact work.


What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team that blends in-house capacity with external support
  • Financial Strategy: Contribute to the development and execution of the organization's financial strategy.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Work with various constituents of the organization to develop and implement financial plans, budgets, and forecasts, leveraging outside support as needed. Analyze financial data and provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting: Create a unified KPI framework and systemized reporting. Prepare and present accurate financial reports, statements, and summaries to senior management, investors, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Grant Tracking and Reporting: Oversee all project/program and grants accounting. Manage the grant tracking reporting to accurately allocate historical spend to grants accordingly, based on specific use of funds.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and standards. Develop and maintain internal controls.
  • Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow planning, monitor liquidity, and optimize working capital management.
  • Financial Operations: Manage accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Ensure timely and accurate financial transactions and records. (Includes determining how much of this work happens internally or with external support.)
  • Systems Management: Implement and manage the Company’s internal accounting and financial reporting systems along with any required external resources
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with executive leadership, board of directors, auditors, investors, and other stakeholders to address financial concerns, provide insights, and support decision-making processes.

The Director of Finance must add the ability to convert the team’s plans into financial realities, while building and maintaining the financial foundation for the team to be successful.

The successful candidate demonstrates enthusiasm for making electrification easy, and models excellence and integrity in all they do. The selected candidate will also possess the following Core and Preferred qualifications and characteristics:

Core

  • Strong commitment to the mission, policies and goals of Rewiring America.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 8-10 years of experience in finance, accounting, or related roles, with a strong track record of increasing responsibility.
  • Financial Expertise: In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and contribute to the organization's overall strategy. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Leadership Abilities: Proven leadership and people management skills. Ability to motivate and inspire a finance team, foster collaboration, and drive results.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and data analysis tools.

Preferred

  • A master's degree in business administration (MBA) or finance, or a similar advanced degree
  • Excellent references demonstrating a strong track record in financial leadership and management.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $190,000, commensurate with experience.

Rewiring America also offers a stellar benefits package that includes: 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year (15 days during Presidential and Congressional elections). We have an office closure between Christmas and New Year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment. Regular, full-time employees and part-time employees are eligible to take up to sixteen weeks of parental leave, in all cases related to birth, adoption, or foster care starting from the first day of employment.
