Role Description
Form Energy is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our Cell Development Cathode team. The Cathode team is a cross-disciplinary group of experts in materials science, battery engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering, jointly responsible for designing, developing, and integrating our cutting-edge cathode technology for Form Energy’s Iron-Air multi-day battery.
As a Senior Process Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for supporting our cathode manufacturing process at various scales of our development, from benchtop, to pilot, on to high-volume manufacturing. You will drive continuous improvement of our processes, prepare and maintain process documentation, and be a champion for safety in the lab and manufacturing space. You will interface with a variety of individuals and groups outside of the Cathode team, including vendors to source new equipment, our Advanced Manufacturing team to introduce new process changes, our Cell Build and Software teams to streamline material and information flow throughout our electrode life cycle, and our Characterization team to stand-up robust quality control procedures. This role provides an exciting opportunity to develop novel materials and processing methods, while contributing to the effort to combat climate change!
What You'll Do:
Drive continuous improvement of the Cathode manufacturing process with respect to safety, quality, and cycle time.
Support the Advanced Manufacturing team during the introduction of new process changes, as well as troubleshoot issues on the pilot and high-volume manufacturing lines.
Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions (WIs) for Cathode manufacturing processes, and train technicians and process engineers to perform these processes.
Perform equipment specification, work with vendors to source equipment, and perform equipment start-up.
Improve data tracking during the Cathode manufacturing process and cell build operation.
Support the development of new and improved quality control methods for Cathode manufacturing.
What You'll Bring:
3+ years of experience in process engineering, with a focus on wet chemistry, heat treatment, electroplating or coatings
Bachelor's degree in Chemical/Materials/Mechanical Engineering or a related field
A bias-to-action when it comes to identifying issues and solving problems in a timely and effective manner
Solid communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
Ability to communicate with vendors about equipment requirements or design
Ability to lead a project independently
Experience with statistical software such as JMP or Minitab, or characterization methods such as SEM, XRD, XRF, BET, XPS, and ICP-OES is a plus
