Role Description

We’re looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join a new manufacturing equipment team, responsible for developing novel equipment used to manufacture electrodes for Form Energy’s commercial product.

In this role, you will initially focus on the development of inspection equipment for the production of electrodes and work on equipment substation prototypes to define equipment architecture and processes. You will be responsible for the development and sustaining of manufacturing equipment maintenance to deliver equipment at new production facilities. Your wealth of experience with equipment design and ability to collaborate cross functionally will enable you to become deeply entrenched in the intersection of equipment design, process engineering, and materials engineering. This position will allow you to be an integral part of designing a disruptive, world-class technology and ensuring the quality of manufactured high performance electrodes. This opportunity is based out of Form Energy's Eighty Four, PA facility. Relocation assistance is available. 

What You'll Do:

  • Own equipment availability in the line and lead a team of maintenance techs to both sustain and improve line performance

  • Provide design for manufacturing (DFMA) feedback to the cell and materials engineering teams 

  • Design and document robust equipment and processes capable of a high level of safety, uptime, and quality

  • Collaborate with process and controls engineers in the start-up and debugging effort for manufacturing equipment and processes at new production sites

  • Train technicians and other users on new manufacturing equipment and processes

  • Work with a diverse set of teams inside and outside the company to achieve overall manufacturing success

  • Be a champion for safety in the development of new equipment and processes

What You'll Bring:

  • BS required in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing equipment design, build, and commissioning 

  • Experience in computer-aided design (CAD)

  • Experience in the design of bulk materials dispensing equipment and processes used in die filling and/or coating processes 

  • Experience in the design of high speed, high accuracy motion systems, robotics and automation systems

  • Familiarity with metrology and high volume inspection equipment

  • Fabrication experience is a must

  • Experience and familiarity with PLC hardware selection, programming, troubleshooting, and configuration for automated systems

  • Experience designing electrical and pneumatic controls systems, specifying electrical and pneumatic control components, and designing the mechanical layout of an electromechanical and/or pneumatic controls system

  • Interdisciplinary communicator, across a range of engineering and business functions

  • Knowledge of statistical methods as applied to experimental design and process development

  • Demonstrated track record of innovative hardware design and engineering

  • Battery experience is a plus
