<p>We are obsessed with making manufacturing and construction green. Today, 40% of global emissions come from the built environment, for new buildings <em>half</em> is from the material choices alone. At the same time, the urban environment is set to double by 2060. That&rsquo;s equivalent to building a new New York City every single month. Releasing 250 gigatons of &ldquo;embodied carbon&rdquo; just from the production of building materials.</p>
<p>At Pathways, we are building the data layer needed to decarbonise manufacturing. Pathways is developing AI-enabled technology to simplify the production of life cycle analysis for building materials. This is the core analysis needed to decarbonise building materials and to track sustainability in construction. Our platform automatically generates and updates Life Cycle Analyses, substantially reducing the time and cost of creating environmental product declarations (required certifications). Our technology integrates across operations to give manufacturers insight into the environmental emissions impact.</p>
<p>Pathways is led by Leise and Alex. Leise has extensive experience with life cycle analysis and decarbonization of building materials. She began her career in sustainability strategy at McKinsey, working with companies like Tata Steel, before scaling an end-of-life material recycling venture. Alex is a technologist, and led data and finance teams at multiple venture-backed start-ups including Uber, Clutter, and Two Chairs.</p>
<h3>What you&rsquo;ll do</h3>
<p>We&rsquo;re looking for a dynamic, full-stack Founding Engineer to join our founding team as we build the platform needed to decarbonize manufacturing and the built environment. As a founding member, you will have the unique opportunity to influence the company's technical strategy, architecture, and product development from the ground up. Ideal candidate has some experience (even personal projects) with LLMs and exposure to new tools like LangChain or&nbsp; Llama Index. This is a hands-on role that requires creative flexibility, passion for problem-solving, deep technical expertise, and a drive to help bring the manufacturing industry into the 21st century.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Technical Leadership:</strong> Provide technical leadership and direction setting a high standard for code quality, best practices, and innovation</li>
<li><strong>Architecture and Design:</strong> Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and refine the technical architecture and design of our products, ensuring scalability, security, and performance</li>
<li><strong>Hands-on Development:</strong> Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code across various components of our technology stack</li>
<li><strong>Product Development:</strong> Work closely with co-founders and clients to translate product requirements into technical specifications and deliver innovative solutions</li>
<li><strong>Quality Assurance:</strong> Implement and oversee best practices for testing and quality assurance to ensure the reliability and robustness of our products</li>
<li><strong>Team Building:</strong> As we scale, there will be an opportunity to recruit, mentor, and lead a team of engineers</li>

<h3>Who is this for</h3>
<ul>
<li>3-5+ years of experience in software development, with at least 1+ year at an early stage startup</li>
<li>Experience in architecting and designing software solutions</li>
<li>Strong expertise in designing and implementing secure, public API's, ideally using Apollo/GraphQL</li>
<li>Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment</li>
</ul>
<p>Nice to have</p>
<ul>
<li>Proficiency in front-end web app implementation, ideally with React and Typescript. Ideally exposed to modern libraries like Next.JS and Tailwind</li>
<li>Some experience with applied machine learning. Ideally, proficient in python and experience with scikitlearn, pandas, and numpy</li>

Pathways is developing AI-enabled technologies that integrate across operations, ingesting supplier data and giving manufacturers insight into the environmental emissions impact. This enables product decarbonization through emission hot spots, material life-time trade-offs and creation of environmental product declarations.</span></p>
