The brain child of a previous contracting business, Zero is building the toolkit to automate the design of all-electric home energy upgrades. Who you are

You love to get your hands dirty and are comfortable being in the trenches building and problem-solving. You’re a curious, “doer” type with a bias for action, but also know when to zoom out and examine the big picture. You have broad and deep expertise in building complex and robust pipelines and more generally, backend software systems. You are a risk-taker, great communicator, and a phenomenal team player who has a proven track record of engineering excellence.

Beyond engineering, you have substantial experience operating in an early team, are easy-going, hardworking, and want to save-the-damn-planet!

What you’ll do

As one of the core software developers at Zero, you’ll have a unique opportunity to work on software that will change the paradigm of how homes are electrified. The software you build will enable millions of homeowners to simply electrify their homes and help tens of thousands of contractors improve their businesses. You’ll work directly with our Head of Engineering and CEO to develop our next generation product and design engine. You will be hands-on, creating exciting automated pipelines and applications that make it easier to evaluate homes, model heat pump systems, and help homeowners upgrade their homes. 

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend software development experience
• Previous title of: Techn Lead, Principal Engineer, Staff, etc. 
• A polyglot with substantial backend experience across many languages and frameworks.
• Experience with one or more cloud technologies (eg. GCP, AWS, Azure) and deployment infrastructure (CI/CD, containerization, scalability, serverless).
• Substantial experience in an early/small teams (e.g. ex-founder, founding engineer, one of the first 10 employees)
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Substantial experience in building energy modeling in one or more of Openstudio-hpXML, EnergyPlus, or Ladybug tools.
• Substantial experience in using CAD software (Revit, Rhino, Sketchup or equivalent)
• Experience with BPI-2400 calibration & compliance, and/or Manual J and S. 
• Strong math and/or data analysis background. 
• Experience with residential building systems, energy efficiency, HVAC, solar, or energy.

Compensation

The expected compensation range for this role is between $125,000-$160,000 and a meaningful equity stake.
