Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionize the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.

What will I be doing?

You will be joining as a Software Engineer within the Billing and Payments area, more specifically in the Payments and Debt Management domain.  We work closely with our retail clients to ensure we are providing a high level of service to our customers relating to payments and debt management.  We are responsible for ensuring all payments are accurate, supporting the customer through the payment journey and ensuring we meet compliance and regulation requirements.

We believe our team members should have the possibility to be involved in all aspects of our delivery.  From the outset, you will be involved in all team activities including development, design, support and testing to name a few.  We do not expect you to have a wealth of knowledge in our domain asthis is something you can build up over time with the help of our experienced engineering team.

The team is primarily Scala based but there are a number of opportunities to work with other languages such as Typescript.  You will also have the opportunity to get hands-on with other technologies such as Datadog and Kafka.

The team is part of a larger squad (Billing & Payments) and so alongside our team-based work & events there will also be opportunities to…

  • Join in on our squad’s innovation time (and/or Kaluza innovation time)

  • Take part in our out-of-hours support rota

  • Get involved in squad events & workshops

  • Collaborate across teams on refactoring or improving on common services

Is this the job for me?

This role will offer you the opportunity to increase your skill set and apply your existing skills to new challenges across the team.

Ideally we are looking for engineers who….

  • Are a hands-on engineer with expertise in at least one programming language - we hire based on engineering skill rather than a specific language, so don’t worry if your experience does not match our stack

  • Have knowledge of engineering best practices and continuous delivery

  • Are passionate about the customer’s experience and building quality software

  • Love working in teams and collaboratively building features that impact customers

  • Are motivated by owning products, from inception to continuous improvement

  • Seek learning opportunities to deepen your expertise or broaden your knowledge

  • Have experience in Scala based functional programming or TypeScript.  This is beneficial but we can develop you in these area if needed

  • Have experience with back end services and monitoring within AWS. This would be beneficial but not required.
