Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

The commercial team at Twelve is seeking an entrepreneurial Senior Manager of Project Development to lead site selection, evaluation, and development work to support the pipeline of sites for Twelve’s E-Jet and other products.

Job Brief

In this role, you would be part of a small but impactful commercial team, reporting to the VP of Commercial and collaborating closely with Twelve’s other functional project development leaders focused on carbon dioxide and electricity sourcing. You’ll join the team at an extremely high leverage time as we establish and execute our siting and project development strategy for scaling Twelve’s industrial-scale, 300+MW project deployments over the next decade. We are looking for an experienced developer with a great mix of strategic thinking, detailed analysis, deal origination, commercial negotiation, community and stakeholder engagement, and project management.

The core objectives for this role will be to lead and support core commercial aspects of Twelve’s project development work, with a primary focus on site sourcing, site evaluation and selection (including utilities such as water), real estate negotiation and acquisition, and preliminary permitting. You’ll be challenged to build a robust pipeline of high quality sites with your own cold and warm outreach and via a network of site selection and evaluation partners. You’ll apply the skills from your prior work in renewable energy, data centers, manufacturing, and related fields, to help establish and execute the project development strategy for a first-of-kind climate technology.

What You Will Do
  • Establish relationships with economic development agencies, industrial real estate brokers, major landowners, and other site partners in key geographic areas.
  • Originate and negotiate new site opportunities via cold direct outreach to landowners, warm outreach via partners, and RFIs launched in partnership with site selection firms.
  • Lead analysis of site suitability for Twelve’s operations, including collaboration with internal technical teams and external contacts such as local utilities and state agencies.
  • Engage the community and local and state AHJs in preliminary permitting discussions to vet sites, and engage and oversee permitting consultants to obtain discretionary permits.
  • Engage local and state economic development departments to understand, apply for, and, in some cases, create incentives for Twelve’s projects.
  • Collaborate with carbon dioxide and electricity sourcing experts to iterate and refine site selection strategy.
  • Own the project development lifecycle from inception to start of construction, including managing project schedule and budget, coordinating with finance on pro formas, and supporting diligence during project financing.
  • Create and maintain Twelve’s internal and external Geographic Information Systems (GIS) resources to support site evaluation.
Who You Are
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, business, or operations
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience and demonstrated track record of successful site selection and development, from initial outreach to operation
  • Industry experience in another electricity intensive sector, such as renewable energy, data centers, or heavy manufacturing
  • Ability to complete or manage GIS work
  • Excitement about getting out into the field and traveling to sites, up to 50% travel
  • Passion for sustainability
