ABOUT THE COALITION

The Building Decarbonization Coalition (BDC) aligns building industry stakeholders with energy providers, environmental organizations, and local governments to help electrify homes and workspaces in the United States with clean energy. Through convening, policy analysis, and consumer awareness building, the Coalition is pursuing fast, fair action to accelerate the development of zero-emission homes and buildings that will help the United States cut one of its largest sources of climate pollution while creating safe, healthy, and affordable communities. 

 

The BDC’s Switch is On campaign promotes all-electric lifestyles and helps educate and inspire consumers to upgrade their gas appliances with efficient, electric alternatives. We use a variety of marketing approaches to reach consumers, including digital tools, paid and earned media, grassroots and community marketing, sales staff training, live events, and co-branding.

 

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Full Stack Developer is a new position designed to shape and execute the technology strategy that is core to the evolution of the Switch Is On. You will architect, build, and scale web applications that empower and guide homeowners and renters on their electrification journey. The technology you build will have a direct impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the built environment in the United States.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design, architect, build, deploy, and maintain digital products to educate and inspire the general public and organizations on the path to home electrification, including navigating rebates, appliances, and contractors.
  • Take ownership of the technical architecture and codebase for the Switch Is On web tools and APIs; leading the entire development cycle.
  • Partner and collaborate with the “Swith Is On” product team, including; the Head of Product, Product Designer, Brand Designer, and Website Administrator. 
  • Implement and refine a modern technology stack that is robust and scalable.
  • Launch features, monitoring their performance, using metrics for data-informed decisions.

Tackle complex, open-ended problems, with a keen understanding of user needs and challenges.

  • Collaborate with product, design, and marketing leadership on product strategy, ideation, design, and prototyping.
  • Ensure high-quality code and documentation for codebase and architectural decisions.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience building web applications and APIs with strong fluency across the entire stack.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and startup founding engineer mindset, comfortable balancing getting things done with stability and reliability
  • Product thinker with proven experience building consumer-facing products from the ground up, owning the technical architecture, and leading technical decisions.
  • Polyglot engineer with fluency in JavaScript frameworks like React, Vue, and Node. Experience with GCP or another cloud platform, Python, headless WordPress, and Drupal is a bonus.
  • Seasoned in agile methodologies and development processes.
  • Exceptional communication, skilled in translating information to technical and non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Outstanding leadership, relationship-building, consensus-building, and presentation skills. 
  • Clarity of vision and a commitment to the highest levels of integrity and quality.
  • Highly collaborative style, able to operate as a thought partner to the Communications team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced remote workplace.
  • Prior experience managing consultants, team building, and contributing to a positive culture.
  • A passion for building electrification, environmental impact, and climate solutions, reflected in a clear and inspiring commitment to the mission and growth of the Coalition.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the field of building electrification, building development, or clean energy is preferred.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT, SCHEDULE, & TRAVEL

The Building Decarbonization Coalition is a fully remote organization. This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in the USA. Some travel may be required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

The salary range for this position is $140,000-$170,000 commensurate with experience, plus a competitive benefits package including paid health insurance coverage, retirement benefits with company matching, unlimited flexible paid leave, 12 paid holidays, access to professional development resources, and much more.
