Overview
Carbon Direct is seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our team as the Head of Carbon Reductions. This cross-functional role is responsible for overseeing and driving our carbon reduction initiatives and will play a key role in overseeing the development of strategies to help our clients reduce their carbon footprint and transition towards a low-carbon economy. The successful candidate is a proven leader with substantial consulting and/or corporate experience, who will work effectively with our team of climate experts to deliver world-class reductions solutions to clients and grow our business.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive carbon reduction strategies and initiatives, aligned with a client's vision and objectives, covering areas such as sustainable aviation fuel, renewable energy procurement, electrification, green buildings, climate-smart agriculture, fleet management, low-carbon materials, circular economy practices, or other innovative carbon reduction strategies.
- Expand our scientific advisory business by building new client relationships and deepening Carbon Direct’s existing relationships with leading Fortune 500 companies, harnessing the expertise of Carbon Direct’s world-class scientists to develop actionable decarbonization insights for clients.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, industry associations, technology providers, and other relevant partners.
- Develop relationships within and beyond Carbon Direct to promote our carbon reduction services, attract new clients, and scope and close contracts across various areas of carbon reductions.
- Monitor the progress of carbon reduction initiatives and policies to ensure clients’ compliance with emerging regulatory regimes, and provide regular updates to senior management, with a focus on emerging business opportunities.
- Conduct regular training and workshops to educate internal teams and clients on carbon reduction best practices, technologies, and emerging trends in the field.
- Attract and retain a talented and diverse team, supporting long-term employee success with a focus on coaching, development, and performance.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in management consulting and/or work directing reductions within industry-leading firms, with a strong preference for candidates with demonstrated experience in climate strategy.
- Proven track record in successfully leading and managing multidisciplinary teams to drive carbon reduction results.
- Deep knowledge of carbon markets, renewable energy procurement programs, circular economy practices, and other emerging trends in carbon reductions.
- Excellent understanding of climate change policies, regulations, industry standards, and global sustainability frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing comprehensive carbon reduction strategies across diverse industries.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to think critically about complex carbon reduction challenges.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and high profile clients simultaneously.
- Bachelors, Masters or PhD in environmental science, business, sustainability, engineering, or a related field and substantial work experience.
