Job Title: Paralegal

Team: Legal and Procurement

Location: Netherlands. Candidate should be able to come in to our office in Amsterdam occasionally. 

Level: Foundation/Beginner.

Contract Type: Part-time contract for 6 months.

In simple language, we are an NGO consisting of a Non-Profit Entity and an ANBI charity, all designed to fight Climate Change through innovation. Our legal team, and therefore you, manage the affairs and matters of both entities.

What will you do as a Paralegal?

The Legal & Procurement Paralegal/ Consultant supports the General Counsel, other Team members and the wider Climate-KIC team on the complete range of EIT Climate-KIC’s compliance, legal, procurement and non-profit matters to manage and mitigate risk, in particular in the area of the necessary governance and legal requirements in the Netherlands.


The Legal & Procurement Paralegal/ Consultant will lean into complex and uncertain environments (multijurisdictional but with specific focus on the Netherlands) to develop and maintain a strong and coherent legal and procurement organizational framework, compliant and ethical business affairs, dynamic risk management, effective and transparent governance, well-structured non-profit matters as well as robust contracting, policies, and procedures.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the General Counsel and working with Legal team on the wide range of EIT Climate-KIC’s compliance requirements and obligations (funders compliance, corporate governance, non-profit, etc.), in particular with a focus on Dutch legal and administrative requirements.
  • advice on compliance, corporate and commercial law, employment law, contracts, privacy data protection, procurement, conflicts, anti-fraud, non-profit requirements, and operations with a special focus on Dutch legal and administrative requirements.
  • Supporting with special projects by providing analysis and regulatory compliance mapping, with a focus on Dutch legal and administrative requirements.
  • Corporate work and other legal housekeeping.


Key Working Relationships:

The Legal & Procurement Paralegal/ Consultant collaborates with the Legal & Procurement Team and the General Counsel, as well as the People Team (HR), Finance, Business Operations/ Grant Management, Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, and Policy & EU Affairs

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications:

  • A University law degree (LLM or equivalent)
  • Masters or year students are welcome to apply


Experience:

  • A relevant post-qualification experience is not necessary but would be additional value
  • Not for profit/charity sector experience is desirable but not essential.


Skills:

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels in a complex, multi-country, multi-stakeholder, multi-entity organisation;
  • Problem-solving attitude, organisational skills and ability to drive compliance, legal, procurement and/or non-profit strategy implementation steps and tangible outcomes;
  • Communication, cross cultural understanding and empathy, planning, and budgeting;
  • Excellent command of English and Dutch;
  • Experience with collaborative IT applications (we use Office365 and Microsoft Teams, as well as Miro, Zoom, etc.).

Location:

Candidates must have the right to work in the EU prior to applying for the position. Ideally, the successful candidate will be based close to our EIT Climate-KIC office in Amsterdam, but we support full remote or hybrid forms of working and offer a high degree of flexibility.

Approximately 3 day per week work at an hourly rate. We offer true flexibility and are open to discussing what this could look like given your other commitments.
