Senior / Lead Application Engineer

We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior/Lead Application Engineer to join our innovative and ambitious organization.

About LeydenJar

• Develop and manufacture pure silicon anodes that enable batteries with worlds' highest energy density. Our technology has the potential to double your devices lifetime or electric vehicle range, whilest reducing CO2 footprint by -85%;
• Currently in the process of qualifying our battery technology towards 'design-in' global leaders in consumer electronics and automotive;
• In the past 3 years, LeydenJar has grown from ~10 to ~90 colleagues, split over our Leiden (battery R&D, application engineering, sales & support teams) and Eindhoven (pilot factory: operations, industrialization, process development & QC)
• Our new Plant One factory will open in Eindhoven in 2026, enabling first mass-market product sales. Plans towards Plant Two and Plant Three are currently under development: our ambition is to grow capacity by multiple orders of magnitude.

Your mission
As LeydenJar's battery technology matures and reaches qualification in more and more end markets, LeydenJar is looking for ambitious application engineers to work with its clients towards commercial end products. Within the context of the newly formed Product division, you will be the first line of technical support for client facing projects (sample exchanges, proof of concept projects and joint development projects). Work in this sense ranges from translating client desires into battery specs, working with LeydenJar's lab, R&D and production teams to meet these requirements and supporting the business development team with technical input. As you grow in the job, you will increasingly take final responsibility for LeydenJar's technical discussions with large OEMs and battery cell manufacturers. 

As an application engineer, you are passionate about translating R&D results into real world applications and you get excited from working with clients in complex, multi stakeholder groups to help them implement our battery technology. Implementing novel battery technology is a multi-faceted problem that requires insights into electrochemistry for battery cell design, transferring these designs into large scale manufacturing lines (up to GWh scale) and advising clients on integrating resultant batteries into their end products. Added to this, you can also expect plenty opportunities to work on LeydenJar's business development and support in R&D projects. Finally, you will also take a role in lab management, quality control, metrology development and proces development. 

About you

• You are highly passionate about both deep tech and clean tech and you want to make your mark on a fast growing scale-up company
• You have a Msc. or PhD degree with a specific focus on (next generation) li-ion batteries. Added to this, you have 8+ years of working experience in the li-ion battery industry. You have deep knowledge of li-ion battery production technology and electrochemistry and are familiar with challenges and opportunities related to next generation technologies such as silicon anodes
• You will lead the process of getting our anodes into real-world applications, so we need you to have angible experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects. This is not an R&D role - we need a hands-on 'getting things done' mindset. You will be the 'technical conscience' of our client facing POC & JDP projects, you will set clear product specs in conjunction with our R&D and production teams and you will translate these specs into clear and concise customer communications. Added to this you also do hands-on product development work and you're responsible for releasing our products to market
  
• You're a teamplayer with excellent people skills and a strongly analytical approach to problem solving. Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances is key

• Fluency in English is a must, proficiency in Dutch is a plus
