About Octopus Energy Spain...

At Octopus, we’ve led the way in innovating new ways to price energy to give customers more control over their energy costs, stamp out the loyalty penalty seen in much of the industry and engage customers to use energy when it is greenest and cheapest. We’re looking for a smart, passionate analyst to join within our data science team to help us manage and develop our energy products.

Our team takes a technology and data driven approach to managing our complex pricing portfolio. We apply modern open data and analytics tools like Python, Pandas and Jupyter notebooks to build pricing tools and models. We’re passionate about automating work loads and processes so we can concentrate on the interesting problems. We’re looking for someone who is equally motivated by using technology to solve problems.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on problems that genuinely move us closer to Octopus Energy Spain with a company that is passionate about building great technology and products that change the way customers use energy.

About this role...

We are looking for an experienced policy professional to support Octopus Energy España's work influencing political and global decision-makers. You will be part of a small, focused team, working alongside our CEO who deliver activities focused on bridging the gap between our research findings, and real-world system change.

This role will effect collaboration with relevant national and international authorities to review, shape, and influence policy decisions, and enhance Octopus Energy Spain’s global reputation and visibility in the energy transition. As we internationalise our focus and research, key markets we want to engage with beyond Spain include the US, Europe, Japan, New Zealand, and Australia.

As a proven leader in a policy and comms function with strong advocacy skills, the candidate will draw on their experience to foster close relationships with the highest influence stakeholders in the energy sector and beyond, successfully accelerating global energy transitions.

What you'll do...

  • Engage a large and diverse set of stakeholders, disseminating our research findings and extending and deepening their influence. To include global institutions, government ministries, parliamentarians, regulators, executive agencies and advisers, industry associations, opinion leaders, and more.
  • Work as part of the external affairs team to ideate, develop, and deliver advocacy campaigns, influencing senior international political and energy stakeholders.
  • Raise the profile of Octopus Energy Spain on an international stage, as we expand our research and policy engagement into new markets.
  • Work closely with the data and trials teams to shape research that provides novel insights on the most pertinent and high-impact energy policy issues.
  • Support with an events programme that delivers a coordinated approach to government, regulator, and wider stakeholder engagement.

What you'll need...

  • A strong track record of successful, ideally international, advocacy work underpinned by research, data or evidence, developing and delivering political engagement campaigns from scratch, and building support for emerging innovations that can drive change.
  • A strong stakeholder network, with global reach. Experience and high levels of confidence advising and influencing at senior levels.
  • Experience working in or closely with one or more of the energy, transport or built environment sectors, and a good working understanding of low carbon technologies and markets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. An ability to synthesise research findings and communicate their implications clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience in getting to grips with technical concepts and research findings. You should be numerate, confident in reading academic papers and have a good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable moving at speed, under a level of ambiguity and in a collaborative environment.

Why else you'll love it here...

  • Our company culture - we won best company to work for in 2019 and our CEO, Greg has recorded a podcast about our culture and how we empower our people
  • Flexible working environment - genuine work life balance here.
  • Equity Options Scheme - you own your own part of the business, share options in the whole Octopus Energy Group so we all work together towards success
  • Office culture - have a certain tech requirement? We’ll do our best to get it. Our offices are also stocked with fruit, breakfast, great coffee and soft drinks. Bi-weekly on a Thursday we all get together (this happens virtually too) for company updates and drinks - we call it Family Dinner
  • Your development is important - we support and help with development including internal and external courses, learning, study support etc, all bespoke to you
  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us! On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit!
  • Octopus Energy is a unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co-owners, on projects that break new ground. We want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about!
