We are looking for a Software Product Manager to guide our development of the software for our Battery Energy Storage System. This role will be particularly focused on the interface between software and hardware, including serving as product owner of the hardware required to operate our power plant controller, the cloud infrastructure, and embedded systems. This position will be reporting to the General Manager of Software Product Management, Energy Storage and Optimisation. 

 

The preferred locations for this role are Herndon, VA, Houston, TX, or Emeryville, CA. This position will be a remote and/or hybrid work structure where the employee can work remotely or from the office, as needed and based on demands of specific tasks.

 

What will you be doing:

The individual in this position will play a key role in defining product requirements for the servers required for our power plant controller, as well as helping define customer requirements for our BMS. The product manager will be responsible for collaborating with the sales organizations, software and hardware managers/engineers, operations, supply chain, logistics, and marketing in support of meeting our commercial goals and objectives. The ideal candidate has three to five years experience as a Software Product Manager with direct industry experience in energy storage, communications, and/or networking. The candidate should have strong software product management knowledge along with excellent communication skills. The Software Product Management team is responsible for creating the product requirements and establishing the development priorities based on business requirements, industry reports, and competitive analysis.
 

Software Product Manager, requirements:
· The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of buyers for energy storage and renewable energy software solutions, their challenges, needs, and how software can support their operations.
· Have deep knowledge of how the buyers use software to manage energy storage and renewable energy solutions.

· Understanding of electronic hardware & embedded systems, and experience working with hybrid hardware/software teams.
· Experience working with logistics and supply-chain and an understanding of manufacturability concerns
· The successful candidate will understand the competitive landscape for energy storage EMS/BMS
· Work with Business Development and Sales to procure market research as required, as well as conduct voice of the customer interviews to inform the business strategy and product direction.
· Build product requirement documents based on feedback from sales, operations, engineering, and customers
· Work with software team on development of software products in an agile manner, seeing the product through from scoping through to deployment, and then collect customer feedback post-deployment to support ongoing software development.
· Oversee and contribute to the creation of the customer facing documentation and marketing support material. Coordinate with regional Business Development Manager to plan and execute the launch of new product and feature releases.
· Possess strong communication skills and financial acumen to aid in the definition and creation of high-impact marketing and sales materials.
· Understand and support the sales team and channel partners. Train sales and operations on the solution’s value proposition, develop internal tools, and teach them how and when to use each.
· Ability to understand how batteries operate at a technical level, understand asset management pain points, and how we can add value with a robust analytics platform
· In collaboration with Business Development mentor and support the sales teams and individuals with customer presentations, proposal development, RFP responses.

 

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:
· Three to five years of software industry experience and/or energy storage experience and/or communications/networking experience
· Comprehensive knowledge of the North American Energy and Power markets along with utility-scale renewable experience including energy storage. Global knowledge of the Energy and Power markets is a strong plus.
· Independent, self-starter with validated ability to succeed in uncertain and constantly changing environments
· Strong project and process management skills with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
· Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and collaboration skills.
· Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in software or electrical engineering, environmental science or policy, or business.
· Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a matrix environment without direct managerial control.
· Experience coordinating activities and identifying priorities for the software development team.

For applicants that reside in California, the salary range/hourly wage range is $150,000-185,000. 


The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.  Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods.  Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
