Mechanical Design Engineer – Standard Parts
Your role and your team:
You will report directly to the Engineering Lead responsible for the System Installation design within the Structures and Interior Design Organization. The Structures and Interior Design organization is the engineering team within the Lilium engineering organization responsible for the development of the Aircraft structure, such as the Fuselage or the Wing system as well as the Interior of the Lilium Jet. The team is supporting the development across the entire life cycle - from concept through to detailed design, testing and into serial production.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer for Standard Parts, you are responsible for defining the list of preferred standard parts to be used in the design of the Lilium Jet. You will provide guidance to the design engineers on which standard parts to use in specific applications and liaise with the procurement team to ensure that the selected standard parts are available on time at the Final Assembly Line. You monitor the market for new developments of standard parts and evaluate the benefits for application in the Lilium Jet.
Your Day to Day:
- Assist design engineers in selecting the optimal standard part for their designs
- Manage the list of preferred standard parts for use in the Lilium Jet
- Find suitable alternative parts in case the preferred standard part is temporary not market available
- Manage the standard parts in the PLM system Siemens Teamcenter and design missing parts if required
- Collect and track the needs for standard parts for the overall aircraft design and liaise with our procurement team to ensure that the required quantity of standard parts is available in the Final Assembly Line on time.
- Remain in contact with standard parts suppliers to evaluate new developments of standard parts
- Continuously thrive to improve our processes related to standard parts – from selection to procurement
- Align with our Materials and Processes team to define and optimize required installation processes for standard parts
Your Profile:
- University degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical/Vehicle Engineering (aerospace specialization)
- Experience in the aerospace industry is required
- Knowledge of aerospace standard parts and their applications is required
- Knowledge of a CAD system is required (Siemens NX is preferred)
- Knowledge with PDM/PLM systems (Teamcenter or equivalent) is required
- Experience in working in the materials and processes department is beneficial
- High level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously is required
- Target-oriented, driven work style with analytic problem-solving skills is required
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment is required
- Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial
