We are looking to hire a Finance Analyst or a Sr. Finance Analyst depending on the skills and qualifications of the selected candidate. The (Sr.) Financial Analyst is responsible for supporting the FP&A needs of a portfolio of department and programs.  They will assist those business units with the organizational budget process, financial analyses and provide budget guidance.  They will support the FP&A Manager for all budgeting, reporting and compliance related requirements.   This position can be based in San Francisco, CA or remote within the United States.
  
Responsibilities   
Financial Analyst Responsibilities:
Budgeting and Forecasting (40%)   
  • Collaborate with budget managers; guide stakeholders through the development and maintenance of department budgets and forecasts.   
  • Lead department budget meetings during the annual planning process.   
  • Support the FP&A, Manager during the organizational annual budgeting process.   
  • Assist staff with budget questions and educate staff on budget policy.   
  • Train new and existing budget managers on budget policy and processes.   
  • Other duties as assigned.    
Organizational Reporting and Analysis (30%)   
  • Provide monthly and quarterly budget vs actual financial analyses for assigned portfolio to support department and leadership financial decision-making.   
  • Report on assigned portfolio’s monthly financial results to FP&A, Manager and Finance Leadership.   
  • Communicate monthly financial results to assigned portfolio stakeholders.   
  • Complete regular transaction reviews for accuracy and compliance with policy.   
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reporting and key metrics to organizational leadership.   
  • Ad hoc analyses and reporting as needed.     
Compliance (30%)   
Support the organization in maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to:   
  • Assist with preparation of state business registrations, charitable registrations and/or split-interest gift agreement compliance   
  • Assist with preparation of lobby activity compliance reporting   
Sr. Financial Analyst Responsibilities:

Budgeting and Forecasting (40%)

  • Build out and maintain complex financial models in support of the annual budget process and longer-term financial planning.  
  • Assist staff with budget questions and enforce budget policy. 
  • Train new and existing budget managers on budget policy and processes.  
  • Mentor other financial analyst(s). 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Organizational Reporting and Analysis (30%)  

  • Provide monthly and quarterly budget vs actual financial analyses for assigned portfolio to support department and leadership financial decision-making. 
  • Report on assigned portfolio’s monthly financial results and other organizational metrics to FP&A Manager and Finance Leadership. 
  • Communicate monthly financial results to assigned portfolio stakeholders.    
  • Complete transaction level reviews and reconciliation Complete regular transaction reviews for accuracy and compliance with policy. 
  • Support FP&A manager in the preparation of financial reporting and key metrics for  organizational leadership and the Board.  
  • Train budget managers and other stakeholders on financial reporting systems; lead creation of training materials.  
  • Ad hoc analyses and reporting as needed  
Compliance (30%)  
Support the organization in maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, including but not limited to:    
  • Assist with preparation of state business registrations, charitable registrations and/or split-interest gift agreement compliance

Qualifications  
Financial Analyst Responsibilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or quantitative field with commensurate work experience.   
  • At least three years of related work experience in finance or accounting positions.   
  • The Financial Analyst should have a demonstrated knowledge of key accounting and budget principles as well as comprehensive experience with Excel.    
  • Excellent communication skills are required, as is a strong partnership orientation and the ability to work cooperatively with different personalities and financial aptitudes across the organization.   
  • The Financial Analyst should be process oriented with an ability to see opportunities for improvement.   
  • Superior analytical and organizational skills are required, as are strong attention to detail, good recordkeeping, responsible time management, and the ability to juggle many projects and deadlines at once.   
  • Familiarity with technology, including leveraging financial budgeting and reporting systems for maximum benefit is necessary for success in this role.   
  • Experience with Planful is a plus but not required.  Non-profit experience and a passion for the Earthjustice mission are preferred.   
  • The Financial Analyst should demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations and contribute to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.    
Sr. Financial Analyst Responsibilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or quantitative field with commensurate work experience.

  • While the Sr. Financial Analyst does not have supervisory responsibilities, they will be expected to operate with increased independence in decision-making processes. 
  • Familiarity with technology, including leveraging financial  budgeting and reporting systems for maximum benefit is necessary for success in this role.    
  • Experience with Planful is a plus but not required. Non-profit experience and a passion for the Earthjustice mission are preferred.

Salary is based on location and experience. 

Financial Analyst salary range: 

Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $96,500 - $107,200 

Remote (US): $82,100 - $107,200  
 
Sr. Financial Analyst salary range:  
 
Salary range in San Francisco, CA: $112,100 - $124,500 
Remote (US): $95,300 - $124,500
