Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.   

Are you someone who excels at collaborating with others and pays close attention to detail? If so, an exciting opportunity awaits you at Capital Power Corporation. We are currently looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Supply Chain Management team as a Manager, Contracts.

As the Manager, Contracts, you will be responsible for leading multi-disciplinary teams in the development of high-quality contracts while ensuring adherence to corporate standards and guidelines.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Supporting the commercial and contract-related aspects of assigned projects from major project, operations, and shared services departments.

  • Preparing of RFI/RFQ/RFP (as appropriate) and contract documents for assigned projects.

  • Commercial administration including management of purchase orders, change orders, claims and contract amendments.

  • Identifying the necessary budget requirements for training and development of Contract Specialists and ensuring the team has the required technical skills.

  • Coordinating and facilitates negotiation activities as delegated and/or required by the project lead on strategic agreements such as turbine supply, long term service agreements and engineer, procure and construct (EPC) agreements.

  • Coordinating and/or leading negotiations with suppliers on key aspects of contracts including pricing, delivery schedules, performance guarantees, liquidated damages, and general terms and conditions.

  • Making informed decisions appropriate for assigned projects and ensuring the team is equipped to do the same.

  • Recommending the contract form to be used based on evaluation of related agreement structures and risk assessment.

  • Developing agreements that meet internal standards and are acceptable to external counterparties.

  • Resolving contractual issues by researching potential solutions and negotiating with partners/customers.

  • Ensuring the accurate implementation of cross-functional contractual requirements such as legal, Health Services and Environment (HSE), insurance, credit, tax and finance.

  • Delivering optimal results in alignment with Supply Chain Management (SCM) and project performance goals and metrics.

  • Continuously improving standard contract documents and SCM processes by identifying potential issues and opportunities.

  • Developing contracts that are complete, structured for easy contract administration and claim avoidance, where risks are appropriately distributed.

  • Conducting final review, approval and/or recommendation to the legal department of changes to our standard terms and conditions on in-scope SCM contracts.

  • Handling involvement and input of key collaborators for each project in a way that supports the project and grow the relationship.

  • Leading major project contract documentation to ensure records are well maintained in the event of contract challenges or litigation.

  • Ensuring that all HSE requirements and standards are fully implemented as appropriate for the respective project.

  • Using a continuous improvement model, ensuring that contract documents are updated to address any shortcomings or weaknesses that become apparent.

  • Demonstrating teamwork and customer service, building a strong and positive relationship with departments that SCM supports.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with key support areas (e.g. legal, insurance, credit, HSE) to ensures efficient and effective solutions during contracting.

  • Effectively negotiating with suppliers and third parties to build value (pricing and terms) for the business units supported by SCM.

  • Ensuring that the team have the skills and understands the importance of building relationships with key internal service groups and with the business units SCM supports.

  • Supervising and developing Contract Specialist(s) and providing guidance and support with their contracts.

What you will bring to the role:    
 

Education:

  • Completed post-secondary degree in a business, legal, supply chain management, or related field.

  • Education equivalency may be considered.

Experience:

  • 5+ years in supply chain management or commercial management or equivalent experience. 

  • Strong understanding of contract principles, structure, and language.

  • Proficiency in contract law.

  • Understanding of electric power industry contracting standard practices.

  • Working knowledge of engineering principles related to civil, mechanical, electrical, controls and IT systems.

  • Experience developing and interpreting technical specifications.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint), Skype, and PDF editing tools.

  • Familiarity applying of risk management skills and tools.

  • Leadership and employee management experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
