Job Description:

Our R&D engineers and scientists develop breakthrough technologies that change the way the world works, and industries do business. We constantly push the limits of convention, while retaining our focus on delivering quality products and solutions to our customers. Over 60 years ago, Hitachi Energy introduced a new way of transmitting electricity across long distances with minimum losses – High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC). You will contribute to successful results in the heart of HVDC station: Modular Advanced Control for HVDC (MACH™). R&D development in Krakow is focused among DSP (digital signal processor) units, I/O systems and Power Electronics valve control units. FPGA development is done on chips delivered by AMD and Lattice.

Reporting to Mateusz Guzik, you will utilize your knowledge and skills in technology and product development to identify and implement innovative solutions.

Your responsibilities

  • Support in development of next generation HVDC control and protection system based on FPGA modules from world class vendors.

  • Development, simulation and validation mainly using VHDL + ModelSim.

  • Preparing and managing technical documentation.

  • Participation in prototyping and testing on real hardware in modern laboratories.

  • Cooperation with specialists from international teams.

  • Learning and developing your skills to understand technical know-how.

Your background

  • You are a 2nd – 5th year student with a preferred programming/control engineering/electronics background (programming, automation, mechatronics, electronics, power electronics or related field).

  • You are familiar with FPGA/ASIC designs in VHDL or Verilog. Basic understanding of synchronous design, time constraining and design simulations is a plus.

  • You have initial experience with laboratory equipment, prototyping and testing.

  • You can effectively communicate in English (B2+).

  • You are strongly committed to safe work practices and following all relevant workplace safety guidelines.

  • You are self-motivated, curious and eager to learn about new technologies.

  • You have a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and strong communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge of Python is a plus.

  • Availability at least 20 hours a week.
