ERM is seeking a Managing Consultant, Sustainable Finance Project Manager/Social Specialist to support and grow our Sustainable Finance and Impact Assessment areas. In this role, you will focus on managing and preparing North America and international environmental and social impact assessment (ESIAs), due diligence (ESDD), and environmental and social (E&S) monitoring reports as well as social studies and plans (stakeholder engagement, resettlement, indigenous peoples, human rights, labor) that align with IFC Performance Standards & WB/IFC EHS guidelines, Equator Principles, and other applicable national and international standards. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as Project Manager in support of ERM clients’ development projects (i.e., renewable energy, power generation, electrical transmission, infrastructure, and other development projects). Carry out project management activities, including client relations, task delegation and direction, team management, subcontractor management, health & safety management, monitoring of budget, scope, and commercial performance, and deliverable quality review.
  • Lead preparation of ESIAs and social management plans/systems in compliance with applicable national and international lender standards. Contribute to preparing deliverables, serving in roles ranging from lead social expert to quality review. Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, undertaking and organizing data collection, survey and fieldwork, data and literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
  • Conduct review of national and international financed projects against host country permitting requirements and international lender standards, through documentation review, international site visits, project staff interviews, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare technical proposals, participate in business development with existing clients, and identified leads. Maintain client relationships that generate repeat business.
  • Design and deliver training and facilitate meetings related to sustainable finance and impact assessment projects and clients.
  • Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute impact assessment projects (e.g., social impact assessment, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment) and social studies (stakeholder engagement planning, labor policies and plans, information disclosure strategy, community health and safety assessment and plans, resettlement action plans, indigenous peoples assessment and plan). Participate on teams comprised of social professionals from multiple offices around the organization.   
  • Mentor junior- and mid-level consulting staff to develop their skill sets and knowledge.
  • Occasionally act as Project Manager, technical reviewer, or subject matter expert (SME) role in U.S. based projects that comply with the U.S. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/MS (MS or higher is preferred) in social sciences, natural resources sciences, or similar field. Or the equivalency of 8+ years related experience in lieu of education.
  • 5+ years (8 to 12 years preferred) of impact assessment and permitting experience, including consulting experience. Experience preparing ESIA-type documents, social impact management plans and systems, and social studies.
  • Technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices, with a solid grasp of the key impact social, labor, and human rights assessment and management issues within the sustainable finance and national and international development space. Experience with international lender standards (IFC Performance Standards, WBG EHS Guidelines, Equator Principles, others) is preferable.
  • Experience in social baseline surveys and field visits, including in remote locations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams.
  • Track record in building strong and trusting relationships with clients and partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience writing comprehensive technical reports and standards.  Strong presentation skills for client meetings and other events.
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
  • Cross-cultural competence and experience working with diverse project teams and stakeholders in North Amerca and developing countries. Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean a plus.
  • Professional competence in key non-English languages such as Spanish, French and/or Portuguese is desirable but not required. 

For the Managing Consultant, Sustainable Finance Project Manager/Social Specialist position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $82,879 – $99,910 (USD).  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where compensation may be outside of the range, based on the factors noted above.  This job is also eligible for an annual discretionary based performance bonus.
