The Corpsmember implements the mission of the LA Conservation Corps by utilizing the opportunity given to him/her to develop technical and personal skills through educational and work program, which enable him/her to advance his/her own personal and career opportunities. In doing so, a corpsmember creates strong ties to her/her community through community involvement and service; explores avenues for personal growth and development in a respectful and nurturing environment and develop leadership skills to contribute to the advancement of all people.
ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
The LA Conservation Corps (the Corps) is a private, non-profit organization that has been helping at risk young people develop themselves since 1986. To date, more than 20,000 young people have participated in the Corps classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for all of us in the greater Los Angeles area.
MISSION
The primary mission of the LA Conservation Corps is to provide at-risk young adults and school-aged youth with opportunities for success through job skills training, education and work experience with an emphasis on conservation and service projects that benefit the community.
Essential Functions
Personal Development: Through self-motivation and with support, corpsmembers work to fulfill their education, development and work plans by setting goals and objectives. Corpsmembers work with their staff to achieve the skills necessary to improve their employability.
Crew Work: Corpsmembers are on their feet continuously during working hours. Extensive walking required. Corpsmember do very physical work that uses both their lower and upper extremities continuously. Corpsmembers work outdoors under adverse environment conditions for extended periods of time. Corpsmember plant trees, clear brush, construct and maintain trails, recycle, perform litter abatement, do landscape work and construction work.
Corpsmember must have the ability to work cooperatively as a team members and must be cable of performing assigned duties safely and effectively to avoid harming themselves or others with whom they come in contact. All corpsmembers must work well with people of different ethnicity, gender and backgrounds.

- Demonstrate good communication skills characterized by actively listening and ensuring respectful two-way communication
- Demonstrate sensitively, understanding and the ability to effectively interact with individuals (Internal and external) from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, disability and ethnics backgrounds.
