Guided by an unwavering commitment to the planet, we exist to combat the climate crisis by driving capital to nature and enabling a fair and equitable transition to a net-zero future. We are a member of the Business Alliance to Scale Climate Solutions, IETA and other critical industry groups dedicated to accelerating climate action.

About the Role

As a member of the Carbon Origination team, you will build relationships with carbon project developers, environmental nonprofits, asset owners, and other organizations looking to leverage carbon finance to drive impact across climate, communities, and the environment. You will be responsible for conducting due diligence on investment opportunities for Catona across the many facets of nature-based carbon projects, including local/national regulations, societal context, environmental context, financial analysis, organizational capabilities, and carbon fundamentals. Further, you’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team to manage the deal closing process, including participating in deal negotiations, facilitating carbon offtake and third-party investor conversations, and marketing efforts.

This role encompasses both environmental technical analysis and financial acumen. It is essential that the Analyst possesses strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and commercial savvy.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct due diligence on prospective carbon projects seeking carbon finance, evaluating projects on a multidimensional basis including technical design, carbon quantification, and other factors that affect project credibility and quality.
  • Facilitate the execution of carbon finance diligence and deal negotiations by coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive risk underwriting.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on content and analysis materials such as slide decks, memos, financial and carbon models, marketing content, and project documentation.
  • Oversee investment portfolio and pipeline management using Airtable, producing executive-level summaries and analyses for company leadership.
  • Conduct research on and evaluate emerging technologies and concepts for carbon avoidance and removal.
  • Occasional domestic or international travel may be required for staff meetings, conferences, or project diligence.

What You’ll Bring

  • University degree, certification, or work experience in Environmental Sciences, Economics, Finance, Sustainable Development, Climate Change, Public Policy or related subjects preferred
  • 2+ years of professional experience, including 1+ year in climate change, carbon markets, impact investing, or international development
  • Curiosity, tenacity, flexibility, entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to build a business in a rapidly evolving market
  • Experience studying, working, or volunteering in a developing country
  • A highly collaborative spirit with exceptional cross-functional project coordination, presentation, and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills in Excel, including financial modeling
  • Knowledge of compliance and voluntary carbon markets, including the development process, regulations, and key carbon standards, bodies, principles, and protocols, especially in Natural Climate Solutions
  • Fluency in English is required; French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish is a plus
  • Belief that the voluntary carbon market – alongside decarbonization efforts – is a powerful and critical tool to address the climate crisis
  • Desire to work for a purpose-driven company that values impact on people and planet alongside profits
