The Stone Soup Leadership Institute, a highly respected, international non-profit education organization, is seeking a Deputy Executive Director who is passionate about sustainability and excited to bring climate education to high school educators of marginalized youth around the world to pursue careers in the emerging green economy.  This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of this organization as it scales its educational tools globally.  The Deputy Executive reports directly to the Institute’s Founder and Author plays a crucial role in driving strategic initiatives, ensuring operational efficiency, and fostering a collaborative culture amongst its global team.  The Institute’s educational tools feature the Climate EducationPlatform which brings to life the stories in the Stone Soup for a Sustainable World series and Curriculum for Climate Education; as well as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Social Emotional Learning; and Service Learning. ​video This position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional organizational and communication skills, capable of managing multiple projects and adapting to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. This role has great opportunities for growth in the next 1-2 years.  Candidates must live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Location & Time Commitment

  • Start date: September 1st as 3-month project with review for year-round position with opportunity for growth.
  • Interviews as soon as September 1st – ongoing;
  • Part-time independent contractor position: 15-20 hours/week; 3 to 4 hours/day for the first 90 days. Working hours: 9am pst.
  • Located in the San Francisco/Bay Area, CA; weekly meetings via Zoom with global teams and in person meetings with ED.
  • Compensation is based upon experience: $50-75/hour – to begin with increases after 3-month review.

Candidate Profile

  • Purpose-and-mission driven, education oriented; previous high school teaching experience a plus.
  • Reliable, responsive and responsible - excellent at anticipating needs and solving problems with a can-do spirit.
  • High energy, self-starter with team spirit and a growth mindset.
  • Empathy, kindness, and a poised, calm manner are also especially important.
  • Value Good communication.

Strategic Planning and Operational Efficiency

  • Assist the Founder in developing and implementing the Institute’s strategic initiatives to scale the Platform.
  • Oversee the updates to programmatic websites and ongoing updates to the Institute’s Platform.
  • Work with the Institute’s teams to implement solutions and identify opportunities for operational improvements.
  • Conduct competitive marketing industry research and implement strategic marketing plan.
  • Oversee the execution of the Institute’s key projects, ensuring alignment with our goals and mission.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive culture with the education teacher training team and social media team.
  • Facilitate effective internal and external communications: newsletters, blogs, videos, emails, websites and press.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure timely and effective execution of the Institute’s Platform and projects.
  • Ability to be responsive to global team needs in a time sensitive manner throughout the day.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role - within the EdTech industry is a bonus.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, marketing and operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in paid and organic Social Media strategy.
  • Engaging written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality. High level of committment.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of SEO, Web development, WordPress.
