Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.
Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.
From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.
Kaluza is currently in an exciting growth phase, undergoing the next phase of our international expansion in Melbourne to further reinforce our capabilities as a globally distributed energy platform.
This means that you would be one of the earliest Kaluza employees on the ground in Australia, working directly with our clients in the region.
We're in the early days of building our team and so in-office presence to us is important - working really closely with our clients to forge a strong working relationship. Our team currently works from our office in Melbourne CBD (Spencer St) 2-3 days per week.
Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We’re well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required.
Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?
You’ll join Kaluza’s UX team, where designers have expertise in user research, service design and product design. We use our skills to ensure that our platform is coherent across complex journeys and is effective in helping its users (developers, operational managers, agents and end customers) to get their jobs done.
You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.
What will I be doing?
You’ll be understanding, designing, and implementing various end to end journeys to meet the needs of our client (and their 4.3 million customers!).
You’ll start by familiarising yourself with the product roadmap and strategy, meeting the client’s customer experience team in Melbourne and become the main UX voice in the multidisciplinary programme team. Here, you'll spot UX opportunities and decide how to tackle them with product leads, delivery managers, developers and the wider UX team in the UK and Lisbon.
You’ll do this by:
- Defining and guiding a UX research roadmap
- Generating user insights to inform key decisions and meet client needs
- Mapping detailed journeys with stakeholders during face to face workshops or on Miro / Theydo
- Leading UX across a programme of work and setting the standard for best practice
- Mentoring and coaching others in UX methods where appropriate
- Supporting a culture of open collaboration across Kaluza, client and third party colleagues
- Using your influencing skills to bring wider business stakeholders on the journey with you
- Documenting work effectively
Is this the job for me?
Ideally you’ll have:
- Strong relationship-building skills both with clients and internal teams
- Multiple years of experience in leading ux projects and teams
- Experience across all aspects of UX including product, service and user research
- Knowledge or curiosity to understand the nuances of the Australian energy market
- Experience designing complex or enterprise-level software
- Excellent skills in leading a user-centred design process
- A strong ability to work with different disciplines, gather feedback, and lead design discussions
- Experience or are comfortable working across Australia / UK time zones when needed

- Annual discretionary bonus
- Dedicated personal learning and home office budgets
- Flexible working — we trust you to work in a way that suits your lifestyle
- 26 days holiday
