Area Manager (Spain)

As a pivotal member of the Asset Management Team reporting to the Head of Asset Management (Spain), you will assume line management responsibility for a group of assets located in a specific Area of Spain of around 250MW and for the related Asset Management team (to be developed in the next 15 months). Accountable for the supervision, management, and performance delivery of your assigned Area, you will represent the Company interests, engaging with various internal and external stakeholders, focusing on availability of the assets and their profitability.


Key Responsibilities 

    HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental):

    • Take responsibility for safety in your Area, ensuring compliance with regulations.
    • Oversee Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards across the wind farm portfolio.
    • Manage the team to ensure adequate site inductions and necessary competencies for all personnel.
    • Implement Safety Rules and health and safety management systems across wind farms.
    • Conduct regular audits of contractors on site for HSQE compliance.
    • Coordinate the reporting of safety incidents promptly and conduct investigations with recommendations.
    • Lead emergency planning with regular exercises to prove effectiveness.

    Technical:

    • Ensure wind farms operate to Best Practice, focusing on technical availability for maximum generation.
    • Identify and mitigate risks that could impact performance targets.
    • Conduct regular checks and inspections on contractors for safe and high-quality activities.
    • Coordinate main component exchanges safely and efficiently, minimizing the impact of lost generation.
    • Investigate major outages to develop lessons learned for prevention.

    Commercial:

    • Accountable for delivering works within a defined budget while maximizing profit.
    • Drive commercial performance of wind farms, reducing operational expenditures.
    • Ensure identification and correction of underperformance, collaborating with key contractors and internal support functions.
    • Operate the plant within the allocated area portfolio with a focus on increased availability, generation and profitability.
    • Procure works in line with company procedures and with the support of the corporate procurement function
    • Manage the PRs/POs generation process within the corporate ERP system and corporate policy
    • Ensure timely payments and OPEX reconciliation supporting the corporate accounting function.
    • Generate accurate annual budgets for Operating and Capital expenditures.
    • In collaboration with P&C (Planning & Control) corporate function, review budgets regularly, providing reforecasting costs at regular intervals.
    • Ensure the implementation of all the performance improvements to enhance profitability without compromising safety or quality.

    Contractor Management:

    • Manage the key service contracts and ensure the team manages all contractors to deliver high performance.
    • Coordinate the implementation of scheduled work plans with a fine tuning approach designed to maximize the profitability through synergies and efficient allocation of resources.
    • Ensure activities of all contractors align with contract scope and are completed safely.
    • Maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders through regular communication.
    • Conduct regular contractor audits to ensure governance against contract deliverables.
    • Review and discuss performance with contractors, highlighting improvement areas.
    • Project manage works on-site to ensure timely and budgeted completion with minimal impact on performance.
    • Conduct regular meetings with all contractors at area level.

    Reporting:

    • Produce operational monthly reports detailing Asset Management activities and performance.
    • Ensure collaboration with Asset Performance area to address turbine performance issues.
    • Generate written business cases to support initiatives and special reports describing technical issues to be used for “sharing knowledge” purposes and improvement of the internal technical specification.

    On-Call Responsibilities:

    • Be available for site attendance outside of regular working hours for extraordinary operational needs (and emergency purposes).

     

    Competencies & Behaviours 

    • Strong commercial and technical focus, optimizing the performance of wind farms.
    • Previous experience in the operation and maintenance sector, including in depth HV/LV electrical plant in depth knowledge.
    • Proven problem-solving attitude.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent HSEQ culture with knowledge of legislations and regulations on operating wind farms.
    • Strong scheduling and planning skills for timely task completion.
    • Good commercial and financial knowledge, especially in relation of P&L logic. .
    • Good level of personal fitness for safe climbing of wind turbines.


    Education & Qualifications 

    • Strong educational background in Mechanical, Electrical or Renewable Energy engineering
    • Min 5 years’ experience working within the Renewables Industry
    • Project Management skills and experience


    Skills and Knowledge 

    • Lead a team of Site Managers across a regional wind farm portfolio, undertaking all necessary line management duties.
    • Ability to effectively line manage a remote team, appraising and developing skillsets.
    • Provide development analysis and support through coaching and mentoring.
    • Ensure the team achieves technical and financial performance targets, implementing action plans for areas of underperformance.
    • Regularly engage in performance dialogue and feedback with the team.


    Travel Requirements

    Travel often within dedicated area and within the wider country region to attend relevant events on site, contractor and internal team meetings and in back-up solution for the site managers
