Senior Climate Assessment Specialist (Fifth Climate Change Assessment) Electric Generation System Program Specialist I state classification

Are you ready to lead a tribal climate change grant program? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Senior Climate Assessment Specialist to perform analytical studies and consultative assignments to manage the technical development, implementation, and analysis of energy, environmental, and economic related data and deliverables resulting from grants to Tribes.

** Telework option is available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.

Our Senior Climate Assessment Specialist will lead implementation and technical oversight of the Tribal Climate Change Assessment Grant Program for the Fifth Climate Change Assessment (CCCA5). The Tribal Climate Change Assessment Grant Program supports capacity-building and direct climate change related research for California Native American tribes (Tribes).

The Senior Climate Assessment Specialist is part of the Cultural Resources Unit, which performs independent field investigations; prepares in-depth environmental and energy analyses; helps ensure conditions of certification are met during construction, operation, and decommissioning of licensed electric generation power plants; and cooperates with the CEC’s Tribal Liaison regarding consultation and collaboration with Tribes.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze environmental and economic impacts and analyze energy and electricity data to develop technical information both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, and report on tribal climate change projects and energy, environmental, or climate change analyses related to funded projects.  
  • Four years of technical energy experience in electric generation system planning, design, evaluation, or operation.
  • Knowledge and experience of tribal energy issues and policy, climate change, adaptation and resiliency, and other technical topics relevant to renewable energy and climate change impacts to Tribes.
