Position Summary:
Part-time Assistant Educators will be responsible for helping youth from the greater Pittsburgh area enjoy, explore, and connect to Frick Park and other outdoor spaces in our community. Please note that this is a temporary position, with an estimated end date of May 23, 2025. This position is based out of the Frick Environmental Center.
We provide training necessary to excel at your job for those who have a can-do spirit and positive attitude. Educators will have the opportunity to teach children ages pre-K through 12th grade in the PPC’s school partner programs, outreach activities, and public programs.
Position Duties:
Performing under the Naturalist Educator and Director of Education, this position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Work with the education team to deliver preK-12 outdoor education programs that include experiential outdoor learning, supported inquiry, environmental stewardship, and child and youth development.
- Create a safe, supportive learning environment for all learners through positive reinforcement, role-modeling, and cultural sensitivity.
- Spend time with children and youth and be committed to supporting their growth.
- Work in office, classroom, and outdoor settings. Work is conducted at various times of the day, with occasional evening and weekend hours.
- Part-time educators are invited to assist with after-school programming and/or work shifts at the front desk providing customer service and information to park visitors and guests.

Training and Experience:
- Strong interest in nature and a desire to teach and nurture children and youth. Background in ecology, biology, education and/or child development is a plus but not required.
- First Aid and CPR certification required (must be obtained within 6 months of hire date).
- The following three background clearances are required: Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check; Federal Criminal History Record Information (CHRI).

- The ability to maneuver through all areas of parks (hills, streams, thickets, etc.).

- The ability to traverse on rough, uneven terrain, as well as wet and slippery surfaces and to ascend and descend ladders to access work areas.
