Success in this position will be measured primarily through:
  • Leadership of Sperra’s grant-funded R&D projects to advance its solar energy products.
  • Overseeing the design and development of solar canal and solar foundation pilot projects.
  • Development and execution of market-entry plans for Sperra’s solar energy product line.
  • Effective collaboration with Sperra’s R&D, engineering, and marketing teams and advisors.

What You Will Do:

The Product Manager, Solar will contribute to Sperra’s success by leading and managing the development and commercialization of the company’s solar energy foundation technologies, which will enable cost-effective installation of solar panels near ports and agricultural communities.
 
Primary responsibilities:

Solar system design and analysis:
  • Manage the design and optimization of solar energy systems, including 3D printed concrete foundations, photovoltaic modules, inverters, and mounting solutions.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, efficiency, and reliability standards.
 
Customer Focus: 
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and threats.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and pain points.
  • Gather and prioritize customer feedback to drive product improvements and new features.
  • Ensure products meet customer expectations and deliver exceptional value.
 
Product Strategy and Development: 
  • Lead the development of solar energy products from conception to commercialization, ensuring alignment with market needs and company goals.
  • Develop the product roadmap and ensure alignment on product goals, priorities, and timelines.
  • Collaborate with engineering, R&D teams, and customers to create product requirements, specifications, and prototypes.
 
Project Management:
  • Develop project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management strategies.
  • Effectively manage multidisciplinary R&D projects with external project partners, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure project goals are met.
  • Prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively, ensuring project completion on-time and within budget.
  • Engage stakeholders, communicate project objectives, progress, and perform project reporting requirements.

  • Annual salary of $90,000 - $140,000
  • Flexibility to work remotely with an opportunity to work at Sperra’s office in AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA)
  • Ten (10) paid holidays per year
  • 4 weeks paid time off plus 6 days paid sick leave per year

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • Experience in solar energy system design and analysis, including hybrid solar + storage systems.
  • Proven track record in project management of technical R&D projects. 
  • Expertise in the principles of product management and product development strategy.
  • Exceptional skills in communication, organization, project management, and leadership.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, organize work, and execute tasks independently or with others to meet deadlines.

Preferred:
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • Experience writing proposals for grant funding agencies
  • Experience interacting with state and federal decision makers and policymakers 
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to approximately 10% of the time domestically and internationally.
  • Experience developing and managing solar projects.
  • Technical knowledge of solar photovoltaic systems.
  • Professional network in the solar industry.
