Purpose
The Power Academy is a unique partnership between industry and academia, established to address the looming skills shortage in power engineering through a combination of financial support and workplace mentoring for students.
Several scholarships are awarded each year to students at participating universities.
We are looking for applications from individuals studying at the following IET Associated Universities to join our program:
New Scholarships places are available from individuals in their first year through to their penultimate year.
The Programme
A Power Academy scholarship provides:
A bursary of £3,000 for each year of study
£250 for books and software
Mentors from industry partners
Paid c. 10-week summer work placement
Summer placement salary of £23,151 (this will be pro-rata)
Invitation to high level seminar on important sector issues
This year we are looking to support placements in both our SP Energy Networks and Renewables businesses.
SP Energy Networks
Scholars will be given an appreciation of typical Distribution or Transmission Network Activities including planned maintenance, new connections, construction and faults.
During placements Scholars will also be given specific business projects to deliver with support from placement Managers.
Renewables
Scholars will have the opportunity to join either our Onshore or Offshore business which will provide opportunities to explore how we develop, construct or operate our Onshore and Offshore windfarms, exploring the newer technologies of Solar and Battery storage or Offshore Floating Wind.
During placements, Scholars will be given specific business projects to deliver with support from placement Managers.
Location
Placements are available across locations throughout the UK.
In SP Energy Networks, you will be at one of our operational depots in the Northwest of England, Prenton Wirral or across the Central Belt of Scotland, including our Head Office in Glasgow City Centre.
In Renewables, you will be in our Head Office, Glasgow City Centre or our Central London office.
Selection Process
Online Assessments and Assessment Centres from 9th December 2024 (South) and 13th January 2025 (North).
