The Contract Manager will manage the portfolio of construction, supply, and installation contracts for projects in the renewable energy sector.
Mission: Coordinate the project contract management processes of the Construction area under the applicable scope of responsibility. The Contract Manager will manage the portfolio of construction, supply, and installation contracts for projects in the renewable energy sector.
Responsibilities:
- Management of the contract portfolio with clients, contractors and suppliers in the awarding, project execution and economic and contractual closure phases.
- Review of contracts in the award phase to ensure compliance with company guidelines, technical and legal requirements, project execution needs, in order to protect the company's best interests.
- Analysis and interpretation of the different clauses and contractual conditions for the monitoring and follow-up of contract compliance.
- Support to other departments and teams of the company in contractual matters in relation to the different contracts of the assigned projects, providing them with the tools to act in any adverse circumstance and reducing risk situations.
- Interfaces with senior management team, finance, and legal personnel to meet overall project deliverables.
- Relationship with contractors and suppliers regarding contractual matters.
- Negotiation with local and international contractors and suppliers in order to reach agreements to ensure the execution of projects and contractual closings, among which are: changes, claims, logistic conditions of delivery at destination, supplies storage, payment terms, payment methods, etc.
- Exhaustive control of projects by monitoring incidents through participation in meetings, project visits and follow-up through contractual communications to avoid potential claims with contractors and suppliers.
- Management and drafting of contractual communications with contractors and suppliers to formalize notifications, agreements, in order to have documentary record.
- Supervision of compliance with the contractual milestones established during the initiation, execution and closing of contracts.
- Management of advance payment, performance, and warranty bonds.
- Contractual training to the different teams involved in the projects, both from the company and the main contractors.
- Supervise compliance with the procedures set forth.
- Supervise the compliance with the milestones related to contracts (objectives, commitment, invoicing, etc.).
Additional:
- Experience in construction projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of FIDIC contracts
- Excellent negotiation skills with proactive approach to contract management.
- Good understanding the various interfaces during the project execution phase.
- Experience dealing with consultants’, contractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to travel within South Africa and the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa and abroad from time to time.
Required Skills and Competencies
Degrees-Certificates/Training: Engineering Degree.
Further training: A professional certification in Contracts Management would be advantageous.
Profile: Skills according to the role
Languages/Level: English/Advanced
Years/Areas of experience: Minimum overall professional experience of 10 years and 4 years in the role of Contract Manager.
