Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Onboard Project Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.
 

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the engineering processes for Onboard railway systems; Onboard ETCS, CBTC and ATO projects.

  • Ensure the identification, management and fulfilment of the System and Functional requirements for the entire life cycle of the project (incl. design and testing)

  • Evaluation of the system architecture and requirement compliance, overall SRS management and ownership.

  • Liaise with the global Hitachi Rail delivery team, specifically at our centres of excellence in ATO and ETCS in Japan and Italy.

  • Manage interfaces between customers, partners and suppliers acting as the single point of contact for all technical queries.

  • Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high-level of continuous improvement.

  • Ensuring all activities undertaken are conducted with due regard to a high-level of safety.

  • Be a leading example of the Hitachi Rail mission, vision and values

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the rail industry; rolling stock and engineering.

  • Technical knowledge and experience on major railway subsystems; ETCS/Signalling, ATO, Railway Communication, Electrification, Power Supply, Rolling Stock, etc.

  • Experience in technical engineering and interface management as well as professional experience in requirements management including verification and validation, RAM, Safety, operational aspects, testing and commissioning.

  • Work experience as a team member in international projects is highly desirable.

  • University degree in engineering, preferably in electrical, system, mechatronic or software engineering.

  • Initiative-taking, with excellent leadership, organisational, communication and people skills.

  • Agile mindset, able to take prompt decisions in a challenging environment.

  • Demonstrates perseverance, patience and commitment for long term success.
