About the role

We’re looking for a Production Engineer to drive high-quality assembly at our factories in Asia. You will play a crucial role in supporting the mass production of our cutting-edge low-power hardware through hands-on support in the factory.

We’re looking for someone who can drive manufacturing best practices, and who has experience using statistical process controls to sustain high-performing processes to build ultra-reliable hardware.

You’ll be based at our contract manufacturing facility in Asia, backed by our team of exceptional people on the ground and at Halter’s Auckland HQ to ensure this is the best job you’ll ever have. You may travel to other manufacturing or supplier locations when required, and to New Zealand to work with the broader team once or twice per year.

What your day could look like:

  • Rapidly responding to an issue in production by taking a first principles approach, developing a recommended plan of attack and putting it into action with internal team members and support staff at the CM
  • Making changes to a test system to improve gauge repeatability and reproducibility
  • Prioritising factory activities through systematic reviews of yield, statistical process control data and test system performance
  • Auditing supplier production processes to highlight and resolve areas of risk
  • Delivering feedback to a supplier on areas of improvement and following up with on-site visits to see improvements in action
  • Planning and implementing line improvements to unblock capacity in rate-limiting processes
  • Tracking cycle times and assisting in manufacturing cost negotiations.
  • Working with the team at the CM to find ways to minimise wasted actions on the line through optimising movements, station layout, or automation

Who we’re looking for:

  • A Senior-level Production Engineer with 5+ years of experience. Production of electro-mechanical products is preferred.
  • Willing to be based at our main production facility to facilitate real-time oversight of production, and travel as required to other locations around Asia. Travel is estimated at 15-20% of your time.
  • Previous experience analysing production data and utilising statistical process control methods.
  • Confident in implementing production quality standards and manufacturing best practices, for example: ISO, IPC standards, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of highly reliable assembly processes and test systems for high-volume electro-mechanical products.
  • Experience with a broad range of production processes including electronics assembly (SMT, thru-hole soldering), final assembly, production data & test frameworks (Hardware Testing Framework on Python), and production reliability testing (burn-in tests, Highly Accelerated Stress Screening).
  • Experience with mechanical parts manufacturing (injection moulding) is desirable.
  • Someone who is positive and will thrive in a self-motivated and challenging startup atmosphere.
