Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Telecoms Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key responsibilities:

We are looking for someone to lead and manage a highly experienced communications design and commissioning team. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for someone with electronics, control systems or communications engineering qualifications who has broad based experience in comms system design and commissioning in the Rail industry.

  • Responsible for the design and delivery of Rail communications systems for an iconic rail project in Brisbane.  

  • Develop scope of works, order materials, engage with various internal and external stakeholders to deliver work packages on time and on budget.

  • Provide technical expertise, lead and manage a team of experienced engineers.

  • Unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will be a proven leader with extensive skills, knowledge and experience drawn from the successful delivery of large-scale comms projects in the Australian Rail sector.  

  • An Engineering Degree in Electronics and/or Telecommunications

  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience as a Principal Telecoms Engineer

  • Be a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)

  • Experience in Rail comms systems and thorough understanding of future technologies

  • Experience in working with customers to understand project requirements and generating specifications.

  • Collaborative communication style with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

  • Experience in design and construct methodology, systems engineering concepts, configuration management, implementation, site testing, and commissioning activities.

  • Proven experience in telecommunications CORE systems, Radio Access Network, Network Management Systems, Backbone Networks and Telecoms Infrastructure are essential.

  • Excellent report writing and oral communication skills.

  • A self-starter who is committed, enthusiastic, professional and assertive.
