Are you a subject matter expert on electricity system modeling? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Lead Electric System Modeler to serve as a prime resource and innovator relating to California's electricity system modeling and related analysis activities. This opportunity is an Electric Generation System Program Specialist II (EGSPS II) state classification in the Supply Planning Unit of the of the Reliability Analysis Branch within the Energy Assessments Division (EAD).

EAD assesses California's electricity, natural gas, petroleum, and transportation systems and trends to provide information to the state's decision makers and the public. These assessments inform the development, and implementation, of energy policies that balance the need for adequate resources with economic, public health, safety, and environmental goals.

The Reliability Analysis Branch has primary responsibility for producing analysis relating to electricity generation and supply and resource assessments. The Branch provides policy expertise on a range of energy supply issues, focusing on markets and infrastructure that provide safe and reliable energy to California. The Reliability Analysis team also assesses strategies and options to assist California in its transition to a 100 percent clean electricity future.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Broad understanding of electric generation technologies and electricity system operations.

  • Experience with one or more production cost models or capacity expansion models.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • The ability to communicate technical information in a simple consumer-friendly manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team and perform independent tasks that contributed towards a shared goal.

** Telework option is available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.
