Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years. 

To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as "difficult-to-decarbonize". Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method. 
 

We are looking for an experienced Staff Industrial Control Engineer to join our team and repower industrial heat at scale. This role will be responsible for development of simulation models, control algorithms, HIL testing, and control system deployment for Rondo energy storage systems.

What You Will Do (key responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to): 

  • Design, develop, implement, test, and deploy control systems for battery charging, battery discharging, and energy delivery systems
  • Control Rondo Heat Battery systems and associated balance of plant, including electrical, hot air, water, and steam delivery systems
  • Write and review specifications, control narratives, test cases and other design documentation 
  • Interface Rondo Heat Battery into customer’s industrial operations adhering to industrial best practices and customer operations requirements
  • Lead design of detailed system models in Matlab Simulink and develop corresponding control systems  
  • Port models and control code into HIL testers and PLCs
  • Test for system stability, response, and overall behavior
  • Be responsible for industrial process automation  
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to improve existing systems control
  • Participate in system integration teams, troubleshooting and problem solving as required

 

What You Will Bring: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or systems engineering  
  • 10+ years of experience in system control for large-scale industrial applications such as oil and gas, steel, paper, food processing, etc  
  • Proven experience in state machine design, PID controller design, distributed control systems, industrial automation and control systems, control of large-scale industrial processes
  • Proficiency in Matlab-Simulink (Simscape), C/C++, SQL   
  • Strong understanding of system stability & related mathematical concepts    
  • Proven experience with development processes from documentation to specifications and testing document   
  • PLC systems programing and operation experience

This role is on-site Alameda,  and necessitates being on-site at our Alameda HQ 4-5x per week. The estimated annual salary range for this role is $175,000 to $225,000 and it would be eligible for Rondo's excellent benefits listed above plus additional compensation in the form of equity. Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidates' diverse sets of skill levels and experience.
