Summary:

The mission of Powin’s Data team is to use data and analytics to enhance operational effectiveness, promote strategic decision-making, and improve asset performance. On behalf of our stakeholders, we build and maintain data products that provide performance analysis, optimization, anomaly detection, and battery state estimation. Our work is heavily cross-functional, relying on close collaboration between data scientists, software developers, product owners, data engineers, and battery experts. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be a leading contributor to our portfolio, designing and building the core analytical frameworks that extract and surface critical insights. Your responsibilities will include designing and testing data science methods, building scalable analytics applications, and conducting ad hoc data analysis.

Job Details:

  • Develop and deploy models that detect and surface anomalous signals in storage system telemetry
  • Model and estimate core attributes of battery performance, such as internal resistance and state-of-health
  • Experiment with novel machine learning frameworks and analytical approaches, to spur development of new data products
  • Generate data summaries, visualizations, and reports that aggregate data into high-level indicators of system performance
  • Support the Data team’s roadmap by creating, planning, and prioritizing team initiatives
  • Contribute to technical papers and presentations on Data team analyses and products
  • Lead and mentor junior team members on data science, software development, and other associated work
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of relevant experience in data science
  • MA/MS degree or equivalent relevant experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Experience in energy storage or renewable energy preferred
  • Experience with Databricks product offerings preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with time series analysis, anomaly detection, and general machine learning, and proven use in a professional setting
  • Strong understanding of software development best practices, such as version control, code reusability, testing, and documentation
  • Experience planning and collaborating on large projects from beginning to end while meeting deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including an ability to effectively engage and collaborate with technical and non-technical teams across engineering, sales, and operations
  • Background in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related technical field
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Limited travel requirements
