Overview
Moyer Strategies seeks a communications associate to support the firm’s rapidly growing work with issue advocacy, public affairs, corporate and electoral campaign clients in Washington, DC, and across the country. We are increasingly focused on climate and clean energy work. The communications associate will play an important role in executing communications strategies for a portfolio of clients, including extensive writing of a range of materials, tracking the news landscape, and engaging with clients. This role provides an excellent opportunity to grow as part of a small team, quickly gain experience and take on greater responsibility. This position reports to the Senior Vice President and is based in-person in Washington, DC, with some flexibility for occasional remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and execution of strategic communications plans for clients;

  • Produce communications materials, including press releases, media advisories, op-eds, talking points, pitches, newsletters, letters-to-the-editor, memos, speeches, and social media posts;

  • Develop and execute digital strategies for clients; 

  • Track media coverage related to clients in national, regional, state and local markets to inform guidance to clients and identify opportunities to place stories;

  • Organize, maintain and update media lists;

  • Pitch stories and develop relationships with reporters at media outlets across the country;

  • Identify creative opportunities to advance client campaigns; and 

  • Other related communications tasks as needed. 

 

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience in communications roles, preferably on Capitol Hill, in the Administration, in media, on electoral or issue advocacy campaigns, or at a firm;

  • A track record of high integrity, good judgment, confidentiality and discretion;

  • An understanding of the broader media landscape, what is newsworthy, and how various types of news outlets operate;

  • Excellent research, writing, editing, proofreading, presentation and interpersonal skills, with strong attention to detail; 

  • Experience interacting with clients in a professional manner;

  • Ability to work with colleagues and partners in a fast-paced, rapidly-changing work environment;

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments at once and prioritize to meet deadlines; 

  • Team player who enjoys collaborating but is also self-motivated and can work independently;

  • Ability to travel occasionally as needed for client work; and

  • Familiarity with Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Mailchimp.
     

Salary and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $50,000-$60,000.
