ABOUT THE ROLE

The internship program at Clēnera is designed to give current undergraduates an opportunity to immerse themselves into the complex world of renewable energy. We have created thoughtful experiences across four major departments in the company: Business Development, Construction, Engineering, and Finance. Students who will be successful in this program will bring a passion for the renewable energy industry, a strong work ethic centered around self-motivation, and a desire to learn and grow by working alongside some of the best and brightest in the industry.

The Business Development Intern will gain experience in the strategic and analytical aspects of utility-scale solar development. You will work on building competitive intelligence models, optimizing CRM systems, and supporting RFP processes while researching state policies affecting project bids. Additionally, you will help expand pricing data sources, assist in standardizing PPA negotiation thresholds, and coordinate marketing efforts for early-stage projects.

*Paid 12-week internship opportunity starting in June 2025. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and analyze models that analyze competitors in the utility-scale solar market by identifying key trends, pricing strategies, and potential market shifts that may affect project bids.
  • Research and recommend customer relationship management (CRM) systems to potentially be implemented by the organization to organize data and relationship tracking.
  • Support the Request for Proposal (RFP) process by preparing documents, gathering necessary project details, and coordinating cross-functional input.
  • Compile detailed research into state-specific energy policies, regulatory updates, and incentive programs that influence RFP submissions.
  • Help diversify the pricing data by researching new sources, compiling cost information from market studies and helping to develop a more comprehensive pricing database.
  • Assist Business Development leaders in standardizing Power Purchase Agreement negotiation terms by analyzing past agreements, benchmarking industry standards, and helping to create a set of guidelines.
  • Support marketing activities for early-stage solar projects, including assisting with stakeholder outreach and working with the team to enhance visibility of new project opportunities.
  • Collaborate with individual department, as well as cross-functionally with other departments within the organization.
  • Maintain organizational excellence in terms of project timelines and deliverables.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Undergraduate or graduate student, preferably entering their final year, pursuing a degree in business, economics, finance, or related field.
  • Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and an ability to learn company-specific software programs, tools, processes, and machines.
  • Skills/Attributes:
    • Self-motivated to work through complex problems and competing priorities, including a high level of detail and organization.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
