We are currently mid-way through cohort 6.</p></li></ul><h3><strong>About the role:</strong></h3><p>Climatebase is seeking a talented and experienced <strong>Backend Engineer</strong> to join our remote-first team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in developing new features (and maintaining existing ones), to ensure a seamless and engaging experience for our users.</p><p><strong>This position can be located anywhere in South America or Europe.</strong></p><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Architect and implement robust, scalable backend processes with a focus on performance, maintainability, and reusability</p><ul><li><p>Since we are a small team, you will act as your own de-facto tech lead and QA. You will be responsible for scoping out your projects, tracking and communicating progress throughout, and testing it end-to-end (both with unit tests and live testing).</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Optimize application performance and improve legacy code</p></li><li><p>Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical discussions</p></li><li><p>Stay up-to-date with the latest backend technologies and best practices</p></li></ul><p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li><p>4+ years of professional experience in backend development</p></li><li><p>Experience working with a web server framework (Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring, etc)</p></li><li><p>Experience with database design</p></li><li><p>Experience scoping out technical projects end-to-end.</p><ul><li><p>Taking (often abstract) product requirements and translating them into well-defined technical specs</p></li><li><p>Breaking large tasks up into manageable, easily trackable subtasks</p></li></ul></li><li><p>Strong proficiency in Ruby preferred, but not essential</p></li><li><p>Experience building end-to-end unit tests, and performing general QA</p></li><li><p>Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git)</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with AWS (Codebuild, Elastic Container Service, RDS, EC2, etc), as well as general DevOps chops</p></li><li><p>Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, remote team environment</p></li><li><p>Must be able to overlap with EST timezone (New York) for at least 4-5 hours per day</p></li></ul><p><strong>Bonus Skills:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Experience with Python</p></li><li><p>Experience with Node.js</p></li><li><p>Interest in or experience with climate tech and sustainability</p></li><li><p>Experience working with AI models (both open source models and private APIs, such as OpenAI / Anthropic / etc)</p></li></ul><p><strong>About Climatebase:</strong></p><p>Climatebase is a rapidly growing remote-first organization dedicated to mobilizing talent to accelerate climate solutions.
