About the Job
XPENG is a leading smart technology company at the forefront of innovation, integrating advanced AI and autonomous driving technologies into its vehicles, including electric vehicles (EVs), electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and robotics. With a strong focus on intelligent mobility, XPENG is dedicated to reshaping the future of transportation through cutting-edge R&D in AI, machine learning, and smart connectivity.
At XPENG Robotics Center, we are dedicated to the development of state-of-the-art humanoid robot technology, including robotics locomotion, manipulation, navigation, and human-robot interaction powered by large language models. We possess a world-class team of software and hardware professionals.
We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Engineer with a deep passion for robotics, to design and integrate advanced mechanical systems for humanoid robots. This position will involve collaborating with control systems, electronics, and embedded systems teams to ensure that the mechanical design aligns with the broader system requirements, resulting in smooth, coordinated robot movements. The ideal candidate will possess not only exceptional mechanical design skills but also a comprehensive understanding of control algorithms, embedded systems, and electrical integration, allowing them to drive innovation at a systems level. This role is perfect for engineers eager to work on high-performance, cutting-edge robotic platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Systems-Level Mechanical Design: Lead the design and optimization of the humanoid robot’s mechanical systems, ensuring the seamless integration of actuators, joints, and transmission systems for flexible and efficient movement.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the control algorithms, embedded software, and electronics teams to ensure that mechanical designs harmonize with control strategies, sensors, and power systems for optimal performance.
Motion and Control Integration: Support the integration of motion control algorithms, ensuring that the mechanical systems respond accurately and dynamically to changing environments and tasks.
Electronics Systems Integration: Design mechanical systems that efficiently house and integrate electrical components, such as actuators, sensors, and control circuits, ensuring real-time feedback and control.
Simulation and Testing: Utilize multi-body dynamics, finite element analysis (FEA), and other simulation tools to test and validate mechanical designs, optimizing for structural strength, thermal performance, and durability.
Prototyping and Iteration: Engage in rapid prototyping and iterative design to refine the mechanical architecture and ensure it meets the high standards of reliability, precision, and flexibility.
Multi-Layer System Integration: Contribute to the development of a layered design approach, incorporating structural, exterior, and functional components, ensuring effective integration of the robot’s skeleton, outer shell, and flexible skin.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or Robotics.
Proficiency with CAD software(SolidWorks, CATIA, NX) for 3D modeling and complex systems design.
In-depth understanding of embedded systems and motion control algorithms, with the ability to collaborate on robot motion optimization.
Experience with electrical and electronic system integration, including actuators, sensors, and control circuits.
Strong background in FEA and other simulation tools to analyze mechanical stress, strain, and thermal performance.
A proactive problem-solver with exceptional analytical and interdisciplinary thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with humanoid robot development or complex mechatronic system design from concept through to product launch.
Knowledge of new material applications, particularly in the design and optimization of multi-material structures.
Strong understanding of motion control algorithms and embedded programming, enabling the seamless integration of mechanical systems with control modules.
What We’re Looking For:
You’re more than just a mechanical engineer; you are a systems designer who can view projects from a holistic perspective, integrating mechanics, electronics, control systems, and algorithms.
You are passionate about the future of robotics and driven by the desire to solve cutting-edge design challenges through multidisciplinary collaboration.
What We Offer:
Competitive salary and benefits.
Opportunity to work on industry-leading humanoid robot development projects, utilizing the latest technologies and innovative designs.
A dynamic and open work environment that encourages personal growth and technological breakthroughs.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. It is our policy to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified persons without regard to race, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status or marital status or any other prescribed category set forth in federal or state regulations.
