Position Summary
Senior Engineer, Development, manages the engineering and technical aspects of Recurrent's utility scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants and other clean energy facilities, from early-stage site evaluation through EPC handoff, as well as staying involved during construction as the subject matter expert. The Senior Engineer is the technical lead on project teams working cross-functionally with leads from transmission engineering, power marketing, development, real estate, permitting, , finance, cost estimating, performance engineering, construction management and operations. The position also includes taking a leadership role on specific subject matter areas depending on skill set and department needs.  The Development and Transmission Engineering Team is Recurrent Energy’s technical backbone focused on cross-functional engineering solutions to build clean energy projects.
 
Principle Responsibilities

  • Identify key project, gen-tie and access constraints, and provide a detailed analysis of all engineering aspects to ensure successful project constructability.
  • Provide engineering input to the real estate team for land campaigns.
  • Prepare and manage conceptual engineering site design drawings in support of power marketing analyses, and construction planning.
  • In collaboration with transmission engineering, provide technical input to interconnection agreements and power contracts.
  • Manage the preparation by consultants of site diligence studies such as ALTA, topography and utility surveys, hydrology studies, geotechnical investigations, distribution power and telecom studies, construction water supply, and related site evaluations.
  • Manage the preparation by consultants of engineering deliverables such as preliminary gen-tie designs, access road design, single line diagrams, and layouts required for permitting purposes.
  • Review reports procured by the internal permitting team. Provide engineering and construction input to environmental land use permit applications. Review permit requirements, and associated impacts to the project.
  • Prepare and manage the evolving project site constraints plan from early site diligence through EPC RFP.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally to prepare the EPC scope of work and technical specifications.
  • Review and evaluate development engineering-related technical aspects of EPC bidders’ proposals during the course of EPC selection.
  • Review technical submittals from EPC contractors, and assist construction management team with subject matter expertise during the EPC contractor's construction and commissioning of the facilities.
  • Primary interface with senior management on matters relating to development engineering progress, risks, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to Management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proven track record in engineering management and managing technical projects from inception to delivery.
  • Deep understanding of project development and land permitting processes.
  • Strong knowledge of project engineering, procurement, and construction processes.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation and high voltage engineering a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project contract terms and ability to translate contracts and financing agreements into concise techno-economic analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge of engineering economics and design optimization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in supporting development process and activities.
  • Ability to summarize complex issues and opportunities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and juggle competing deadlines effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product and development engineering team performance.
  • Effectively manages flow of information upward to Director of Engineering.
  • High degree of effectiveness working in a collaborative and open culture of cross-functional teams
Experience & Education

  • 4-year Engineering degree from an accredited educational institution required.
  • Masters or Professional Engineer registration a plus.
  • 5+ years of development engineering experience or equivalent is required.
  • Construction, testing, and commissioning experience is a plus.
  • Structural Engineering background is a plus.
  • Prior experience in solar industry is preferred
